Been listening to a phone in on Radio 5 about Tony Blair giving all the proceeds from his book to the Royal British Legion. I think the sum mentioned was about £4m, but I'm not sure on that as I came to the discussion late.

Some woman phoned up to say she was going to rescind her membership of the RBL because of this. Others have phoned to say the usual stuff about blood on his hands, and that this money makes no difference.

Now I am absolutely not a fan of Blair, in actual fact if he comes on the telly I will switch it over, I find the man odious. However, this isn't such a bad gesture from him. I know he has a few bob, but this is quite a large chunk of money even for him.

Does anyone else feel he is trying to cleanse his soul with a 30 (or 4m) pieces of silver, or is this just a really nice gesture?

Bliar is only interested in himself and this "Gesture" is all about promoting his book rather than buying a conscience after creating an illegal war with Geroge W. Gump.

On odius man who should stand trial.

And he's giving away the proceeds of the book!!!

I have nothing positive to say about Blair but if I were him, I'd now be wishing I'd kept the cash FFS!

Only his british proceeds. He's keeping hold of worldwide ones where he'll be made richer by the American fornication over him.

Yep , don't be misled by this .....

Blair will stand to make a whole lot more than £4 million from his booksales , and he knows that only too well ......

people shouldn't be taken in by the guilty conscience and false smile of a man who was basically in Americas pockets , and has no doubt taken great delight in Gordon Browns demise ..... it was Blair who lied his way into the Iraq situation , a war that we can never win , just like he lied to the ordinary Labour voter about other issues .......

Blair looks after himself , nobody else.

It wouldn't surprise me if this is just a ploy to win a few peoples peoples hearts into the idea of Blair having another pop at the Labour leadership in the future ..... god knows what the dead servicemens relatives will think of this , why didn't he give it to another organisation , maybe a charity?

I shouldn't think his 'gift' will make all that much difference anyway ...... my local British Legion has just been forced to close for 'financial reasons' .... and i'll bet i don't see it opening again for the needy old folks of Cheadle Hulme!

Despite making noises to the contrary I find it absolutely inconceivable that any of Britain's recent major politicians be that Cameron, Clegg, Brown, Thatcher, Major or whoever would not have taken us into that war. Those who believe otherwise are naive to say the least. That said out of all those mentioned I wonder how many would donate such a large sum of cash to such an approriate charity. Blair simply cannot win in some of you're eyes.

We're basically owned by the good ol' US of A so any PM would have had to do the same.
He should have done it anonymously, so people with with a political axe to grind couldn't have used the gesture against him.

Can I just say that Blair has saved as many lives as he has killed. Look at Sierra Leone, for example.

How would you guys judge Blair if it weren't for the atrocities of Iraq?

Also, as for Iraq, he has probably made the country safer in the long-term.
