1. Ederson is a crowd favourite but has been inconsistent since the start of last season apart from his ball distribution. He is rarely criticised despite being one of our worst players in some of the big games last season (e.g. Manure away in the league, Lyon). Hope Steffen is good enough to properly compete with him for a starting place.

2. Fernandinho was the best DM in the world from August 2017 to February 2019. His first season under Pep was poor and he hasn't shown anything after his injury in February 2019 to justify the opinion that he is still better than Rodri and Gundogan at DM. He clearly isn't. The experiment with him at CB continued for too long. That's on Pep. With all his brain farts, Walker would be a better CB than this oldish version of Dinho.

3. Rodri is much better than most fans realise. He started his career in a disfunctional team hit with injuries. Blaming him is myopic and comes from a typical obsession with pace. Busquets wasn't quick either but will retire as one of the best DM ever.

4. Gundogan is more useful to this team than many fans think. When he replaced Fernandinho at DM (March-May 2019), we didn't suffer at all. Actually, we had a better defensive record with Gundogan at DM than with Fernandinho! Our best games last season (Real away and home, Liverpool home, Manure awayin the cup) involved both him and Rodri.

5. Jesus is already better than Aguero and it's not even close. He is severely underrated by many City fans despite the fact that we defend better with him in the team AND score more goals.

Be dead easy to turn things round then.

I'd agree with most of that.

Yes, once we have a RB who can contribute in attack and a LB who can defend, and once Laporte regains form and Dias finds his feet in the league, THEN it will be dead easy to be very strong again. Actually, Laporte and Dias forming a good CB partnership will be probably enough for us to be up there with Liverpool or maybe even better. But until then fans will write tons of posts about Rodri, Gundogan and Jesus not being good enough.

I'm sure we can get away with Rodri & Gundogan if we have a great defence.

If we don't, we won't get away with Rodri & Gundogan.

Good luck finding a better rb than Walker.

Cb,lb,rb have to much of the ball at present. The build up play is crap and we get taken apart with 2-3 passes. The transition from the back to forward is awful and the forwards can’t control the ball or make simple passes. No space in behind as we don’t run the line anymore. The system is a mess. Wrong players also in system does not help.

We already have a RB at the club who is entering his prime, can contribute more in attack and who knows? might be less prone to brain farts than Walker. Yes, Cancelo.

Why criticise Ederson? He didn't make any mistakes. One of the few.

Agree about Fernandinho. His legs have gone. Disaster last season in defence. I've also thought about Walker in defence. His pace is a huge asset but his positioning is questionable.

Very skilled player but pace at the centre of City's side is an issue. If all your team-mates in the centre of midfield and defence are slow then the defensive midfielder has a problem when he's defending.

He uses the ball well but defensively he's not the answer.

Completely agree about that. Jesus is a massive asset to City and this is not recognised by City fans.
