Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

Will go with a fairly well known one today. I was never sure whether Glenn Matlock used to go on about Abba to wind people, including the other sex pistols, up a bit. Either way he was adamant they impacted his song writing and in fairness if you're going to borrow from an Abba song definitely make it their best one.

Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant / SOS - ABBA

Elastica - Waking Up

Ripped off The Stranglers No More Heroes that much they settled out of court for plagiarism. The overrated Britpoppers also ripped off Wire with Line Up - I am the Fly and Connection - Three Girl Rumba

Yes, they are bang to rights on that one but I've never quite understand how these court cases work. The one I'm going to do tomorrow got thrown out of court and I really can't understand why cause it's pretty blatant to me.

Good lawyers and a tone deaf judge, probably.

I've added three songs.

In early 1973 David Bowie and Sweet released singles on the same record label with the same riff. Both tracks were recorded at similar times in different locations so they didn't rip one another off but a clue to how they came up with the riff might lie with The Yardbirds - Bowie bassist Trevor Bolder thought that might be the case.
