Blue Moon Playlist Review Club - Season 2 - Episode 27 - Out on blue 6 - Gone Too Soon (pg 438)

Haha, not meant in a derogatory fashion. Vocals won't be everyone's cup of tea and I'm not convinced about that last minute or so, but I liked it.

Ok, glad I gave you the benefit of the doubt ;).

See past the vocals. And it certainly has a bit of grit, and that particular strum of a string Rob likes to suss out. The extra at the end is totally redundant, even as part of the album where it makes more sense, but is still unnecessary.

While we're in a Gerry Rafferty moment with the some of the noms, there's also a connection from him back to the first artist on the playlist. At the start of the 80s when Richard and Linda Thompson were dying on their arse and couldn't get a new record deal having been binned off by Chrysalis, Rafferty stepped in and agreed to bankroll, produce and promote a new album for. It didn't go well, Thompson and Rafferty fell out during the process and Rafferty ended up mixing it on his own, no one took up the album and Rafferty lost all his money on it. About 12 months later most of the songs from those session were re-recorded in a matter of days (due to lack of money) and with a few new tracks issued by their new label as Shoot Out The Lights which is now viewed as a great album and by most as Richard and Linda's best. You can find most of the original sessions online now under the title of "Rafferty's Folly". It seems Rafferty was a decent man who through a combination of his strident views and illnesses was hard work to get on with; famous but in some ways a bit of a lost talent.
