Blue Moon Top 100 Bands and Artists
I know there are a few people who don’t like to read a load of waffle, so here’s the important bits:-
I’m running a Top 100 bands/artists poll. If you’d like to contribute:-
1. Send me your favourite 15 artists (numbered 1-15, 1 for best) in a personal message.
2. Deadline for entry is Friday 10th December.
3. Do not post your list on here because that may spoil the results.
4. Sit back and wait for the countdown.
The Details
Ah, if you’ve made it this far, you probably like reading a load of waffle. You’re in the right place.
Around this time last year, we were all voting on our favourite albums, singles, books, films and TV series. I’ve checked with @BlueHammer85, and it appears that we didn’t ever get around to voting on our favourite bands and artists.
Therefore, in the interests of some serious music discussion and good banter, I’m launching this thread and, as a collective, we can answer thorny questions such as:-
Hopefully you get my point. Throw all these factors into the melting pot and see if you can come up with your definitive top 15. Number them 1-15 and send them to me in a personal message.
I’m setting a closing date of Friday 10th December. Hopefully this will give you enough time to think it through and get your votes in. It will also give me enough time to count the votes (all three of them?) and then begin the countdown the week before Christmas.
The Scoring System
I’m going to use the same results system as BlueHammer because I think the countdown in batches of 5 for those in positions 100 to 21, followed by the top 20 at one-a-day worked brilliantly.
I am going to tweak the scoring system slightly because I feel the difference of 19 points between 1st and 20th may be a bit large. Also, I think that the further you get down your list of favourites, the less obvious the differences are, so I want to use the following system (that I’ve just made up):
Artist #1 = 5 points
Artists #2 and #3 = 4 points each
Artists #4 - #6 = 3 points each
Artists #7 - #10 = 2 points each
Artists #11 - #15 = 1 point each
So really, you don’t need to sweat over the exact positions of some of your artists, just so long as they are at the right level of the pyramid:-
5
4 4
3 3 3
2 2 2 2
1 1 1 1 1
Hey, if UEFA can complicate their draw and seeding system, then I can complicate how we allocate points to a list!
Hopefully, this will give enough demarcation between those at the top of your list and those further down, and those 1 -and 2-point artists might become significant in the scramble for the top.
Thanks for reading.

- Will the list be dominated by the UK-US axis or will other territories get a look in?
- Is prog rock any good and if so, how will the big prog rock bands fare against each other?
- How many Manchester bands will appear?
- Will those two heavyweight genres country AND western trouble the scorers?
Hopefully you get my point. Throw all these factors into the melting pot and see if you can come up with your definitive top 15. Number them 1-15 and send them to me in a personal message.
