Bluehammer's 'Top 100 Greatest Songs of All Time'

Mine (and I may have referenced this) is over 300 favorite songs, but a band is only allowed to have one contribution. It's fun because it goes across lots of genres but it really forces you to winnow down your favorites among the bands you love. So I have a favorite Philip Glass piece, a favorite Public Enemy piece, a favorite Charlie Rich piece, where I might have a few to choose from, but I also have one-hit wonders like Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" -- but then when it comes bands I love like New Order or Sleater-Kinney or The Who where I could pick one of 10 or 20 songs, I really have to bear down to figure out what my fave is.

You've set me off already on a project to compile a playlist of 250 songs with only one per artist; I may end up going beyond 250.

It’s almost impossible. Particularly an artist you really love. I cannot pick a single Kate Bush track and call it my favourite. I feel I would be insulting her :-(. I also try and keep to songs that are recognisably songs rather than extended pieces of music. For example, BH chose Firth of Fifth by Genesis. I love that track but would never class it as a song. Tubular Bells is not a song ;-).

I allow pieces of music i.e. any track.

Tempted to do one that is singles only (US or UK).

i made a suggestion elsewhere. If someone has the time, get everyone who wants to post their top 10 to do so, ranked from 1-10. If you rank a song #1 it gets 10 points, 2nd 9 points etc. Tabulate the results and rank the songs in order of points. You could then come up with a Bluemoon favourite 100. Would make a good play list I expect.
I am quite certain my list of 10 or 20 would contain maybe one song on someone else’s list but maybe not!

It'll be flooded with Beatles and Morrissey.........

Here we are then, end of a era - thanks to my loyal band of followers who have stuck with this through thick and thin

we had GrayGate and a few other sticky patches but overall the list was received well, considering it's a tough audience.

Apologies to Queen, Bruce Springsteen and many more legends of Music who i didn't fit on

there is also a lack of Motown, Blues, Rap and many other genres that i would have liked to have included, but hey ho.

well done to @Ballymagash Blue who correctly called what would be No 1.

Take it away Bob...
