Bluemoon Angling Thread

Second attempt on the Nene only delivered 3 reasonable bream and a large bream for my mate and 3 reasonable bream for myself, so poor again unfortunately. Someone needs to explain to DD that the bloke who is asking 'has he got a rod he can use' sounds extremely dodgy!! Off to cook some fried spam, hash browns and beans for lunch. Yes people do still eat spam, but only very occasionally :-)
Near Peterborough?

quick question,

i was watching a video on pike fishing, the guy was using heavy fluoro instead of a wire trace is this a good thing, also if it is good what strength fluoro would you use ?
Just seen this. The use of fluoro is generally frowned on by serious pike anglers but some swear by it. It tends to be used in the 30-50lb range. I have started using it for my perch fishing in 6lb , attached to 8lb braid. but only with small, single hook rigs and if there's a slim chance of a pike. I wouldn't use it with treble hook lures or dead baits.

I have the same for my perch, but 10lb braid, same with the single hooks,

I've ordered a couple of fluorocarbon leaders 80lb and 100lb, I was looking on YouTube for guidance, one of the guys I sub to said he's never been biten off on 80lb,I'll give it a try see how confident I am in using them

I'll be interested to hear how you get on. For my pike fishing I have titanium traces which cost a lot but don't kink.

Blank for me on the lures on the river today. Was going through the motions with a massive hangover to be honest. Will get some proper barbel fishing done this week. I need the change.

Rivers picking up. Caught twice as many barbel on the Severn yesterday as I managed in 4 days on the Wye (2). Only small fish, approx. 3.5 and 5.5 lbs but very welcome and in great nick. I also had a bream which is what I actually hoped to catch.

Since Ireland's had to be postponed, we're doing a 4 day tour of Shropshire next week.

Woke up at 4am (day off) I'm terrible at sleeping in, decided to have a few hours on the canal, caught a pike after 15 mins equalling my pb of 64 cm :),
Then caught 15 mins from my car on the way back with my pb pike 82 cm, a very happy chappy :)

It’s a huge Lake at 7700 feet asl, the water can get very sea like very quickly. For as busy as the park is the Lake is almost deserted, there was one day we didn’t see another boat all day long
when you say huge, what acreage would that be? where you fishing fly or lures? What naturally will the trout be feeding on at that altitude. Sorry for all the questions, just genuinely fascinated.
It looks absolutely gorgeous.
