The snr project grew up the fish from the hatchery to smolt size when they were released back into the Wye to descend to the sea.
They were safe from predation so survival rates were much, much higher.
The hatcheries and ponds have sadly been shut down.
This seasons Wye salmon catch is looking like being one of the lowest on record.
Have a look at The Wye Salmon Association site mate , and I would urge anyone interested to join up. Its only a tenner, and if you fancied a day trying for a salmon they have a Rods On River section offering free days salmon fishing!
