Genuinely never heard of it.
Do you not have a TV ?
Genuinely never heard of it.
Just watch it and give it a chance, you might not be as far up your own ass as whoever wrote that review.
I'm sure it's very good, and I know this is probably going to say more about me than the series, but any show that is heavily plugged by the BBC/ITV, has constant trailers and dramatic BBC sound department music and has it's stars making regular appearance on TV chat shows for interviews telling everybody how good it is, puts me right off.Just watch it and give it a chance, you might not be as far up your own ass as whoever wrote that review.
Its really good, hopefully you will enjoy it.He is actually pretty measured, sober and usually far less outspoken in his assessment of books, TV shows, music, films and so on.
Anyway, as it’s available to watch for free, I might still give it a go after all. I was just curious as to what distinguishes the series from other police shows and has made it so popular among those who voted for it here.
One thing that I am slightly surprised at it the lack of any 70s/80s American cop/action shows in the top 100.9 out of my top 10 already in the top 100. I'm surprised that Columbo will be in the top 6 ;-)

Didn't vote for any myself, but I would have expected shows like Columbo, The Streets of San Francisco, Kojak, Quincy, Starsky & Hutch, Hawaii Five-0, Magnum, The A-team etc. might feature in the lower reaches of the 100.
OK, they never had a story arc, but they were good entertainment for the most part.
It's far fetched and heavily exaggerated in places mate, you'd probably get 50 years of Met fuck ups for just one series in this, it's just very condensed, but as long as you don't take everything too seriously and to the extent it puts over, it's genuinely a cracking show and well worth watching, completely different level to something like 'Luther' imo.A friend of mine (who is usually spot-on when it comes to the evaluation of TV shows ) had this to say in a recent e-Mail:
‘... in need of something to watch we scoured iPlayer last night. We decided to watch the first Line of Duty in case it wasn’t as crap as it looked. We needn’t have bothered. So desperately earnest, it’s like the Archers, thrusting a CONTEMPORARY ISSUE in your face in the expectation that you will be too polite to say you have already heard of it. I doubt that any episode passes without a heavier expenditure of ammunition than the real Met gets through in a year.’
Obviously, he didn’t stick with the show and I am therefore also minded to avoid it.
Is there someone prepared to argue for its merits?
