Great post PC..for the life of me though I just can not ever fathom switching from Blue to rag..even when it was shit..some rules in life should never be broken... ever.
I must say I never judge kids from the 90s and noughties who became United supporters. It is absolutely human nature, especially when you're a kid, to want to be on the side of the winners in life.
There must be a few on here who freely chose to become blues in those years, without anyone in their family being a blue (thus without any family pressure, and particularly pressure from the dad, or just simply following the dad — or an uncle, or an elder brother or sister — as a role model), but I don't believe there'll be many. I just don't.
As for myself, there was nobody in my family who was either a City or United fan, in fact, nobody who was a genuine football fan of any kind. But there was nothing in the least heroic about me choosing City in 67-8. Yeah, United were pretty prominent already, but City were a bloody good team, too, and something about them just pleased me more. It helped, too, that they were the south Manchester club.
But did I choose to go and support Bury rather than either of the two big Manchester clubs? Or Rochdale? Or Stockport County? Nope. I could have. But I didn't.
