Plaything of the gods

I've just hooked a Bluetooth adaptor to my old HiFi and can play audio through it from my iPad or laptop. However the signal from the laptop (which lives in the kitchen) doesn't quite reach the HiFi in the living room.
The way the house is set up the laptop will have to continue to be powered/charged and mostly used in the kitchen. I can stick it on top of the HiFi temporarily but it will lose charge unless I go through all the fuss of plugging it in there each time, which I don't want to have to do.
The laptop has inbuilt Bluetooth, which I should imagine has the usual 10m unimpeded / 5m through walls, doors and furniture range.
Has anyone got recommendations for how to extend the range? 20m should do it. I've been looking at Bluetooth USB adapters but it's not clear which will work with 64-bit Windows 8, nor how a second Bluetooth facility would work/interact with the existing one on the laptop.
