Do you think it was rally wise of BM to say yesterday post-match "We will get 4th"?.

I want City's manager to say optimistic, up beat things when we loose, but by saying "we will" I think this could put added pressure on the already seemingly nervous players. These statements I think are always dangerous & can backfire.

Benitez made a guarantee of 4th & their is little possibility of that but I was surprised that BM said this but then it could work both ways, or maybe he thinks he has nothing to loose personally anyway?

Yep, think it was a good move.

Guaranteeing the 4th spot will make the players know that failure is not an option, in no uncertain terms, their jobs are riding on their ability to get fourth.

Yeah, because Benitez and done it and has failed, we should all pay attention to that rather than the literal thousands of times that a manager has guaranteed something and it has come off.

Because reality works that way.

No harm in it at this stage.

Not the same as Benitez guaranteeing it at all. That was months ago and ridiculously arrogant. Only four games left now and it's a two horse race (late Villa winner excepting). Gee the fuckers up. Also should give them confidence.

Bobby manc is the way forward, i have heard his former players, stating in interviews, about how high he sets his standards and how he will not tolerate negativity or carry any passengers. I really do like this fella, and will be totally amazed if we fail to capture any silverware/higher league position next time around, so him stating we will get 4th, is a good thing imo.

I think he values mental strength/professionalism just as highly as natural ability. And on that basis I think there may well be some unexpected departures in the summer.

Him stating we will get 4th means nothing. Just as Benitez saying they will get 4th means nothing. Managers talk bollocks end of. Sometimes they turn out to be right, sometimes they turn out to be wrong. Trust me, he has no idea how the rest of the season will pan out. Nobody does.

I stopped listening to footballers at about 6 or 7.

I already know what they're going to say before they've said it. There's only about 10 platitudes and cliches to narrow it down from so it's fairly easy.

Anyway, this is a great forum and I'm honoured and delighted to be a part of it. As a kid I'd always dream of a day like today. I can only promise you guys that I'll post to the best of my ability and give my all.

Looking at what Wigan did to Arsenal, and our home games with Villa and the Spuds. We need to destroy these teams, especially the spuds. Teach them a lesson, and watch Appy Arry cry when we end his chances at Eastlands. City do everything the hard way.

hg, if we win all our remaining fixtures we will be 4th, of that there is no doubt. Mancini will in his mind be looking to win all the games and must absolutley believe we will win them all. I don't think it's ALL bollocks. and btw liverpool were in the same state as they are in now when the fat waiter made that laughable claim.

As a manager, Mancini is absolutely right to set the highest expectations at this stage.

Think of it as a race, this is the finishing staight. You go all out to win. The goal is clear and believing 'we will succeed' is the only way to go for it.

Call it over confident if you like, but it's a winner's mentality.

Just ignore me mate. I'm a miserable old get whose heard enough bollocks from enough managers over the years, to make me take everything I hear with a huge pinch of salt. If Mancini has said this and you believe him fair enough.

I think he absolutely means it.

When I watched the clip to say he will get fourth, I didn't see the look of desperation in his face, unlike Benetiz. Maybe I saw what I wanted to see, but I was SURE I saw a flash of anger in his face.

I think he will put the players through more of the double shifts, they apparently hate and I think the emphasis for the rest of the games will be on attack.

I think he's going for broke.

Yer won't get any manager, 4 games left, all to play for, taking a look and the fixtures and saying "Oh shit! We're buggered! If Dick Van Miffy plays in the Arse game, and Jimmy Greaves in the Spuds game, we're doomed!"
Quality player Van Miffy, though Greaves' legs have gone, imo.

If Garry Cook had said it, there'd be 50 pages of bile and abuse.

That's because Garry Cooke has the public image of being a complete idiot.
He should stay away from the media because it is absolutely clear that he has no star quality at all, and that's being kind.

He may well be a nice man and all that, but even the mention of his name evokes the wrong knd of smile these days.
