BMW, Cooper S owners

Got a 2017 Cooper S with those BMW type windows that drop or raise a couple of mil when opening and closing the door. My question is for anyone who has one....does the driver side window automatically drop by a few mil when it starts freezing thus allowing access in freezing weather.

My wife has what sounds like the same problem with her car (convertible/frameless windows), the window doesn't drop in freezing weather so you can't open the door. She wipes the rubber seals with a treatment called "Gummi Pflege" before any cold weather which stops it happening.
