Boiler packed up

Although i have a Vaillant eco tec plus. I would also recomend a Ravenheat 150ci (24kw, 150,000 btu) some suppliers are giving away a free flue (Selco). Supplies for ravenheat are afforable too. Most others get Mb problems.
shop around and see what discounts you can get for a good combi.

I can vouch for bammy blue. He did a great job (and very reasonable price) for me. I also recommended him to my mate, for which he installed a brand new boiler.

The only niggle i had, was the reason behind him stripping to his y-fronts while he was working. I have had a few tradesmen at my house over the years, they all kept their strides on, is it a plumming/gas man thing?

there not the best pal, vailliant or worcester all the way.

think the weissman have a 7 year warranty on them also, which is good.

true mate ,I`ve seen more faults on worcester boilers though, I only recommend vaillant and wiesmann to be honest. Glow worm and worcester are like a fords . Vaillant and viessmann are the mercedes ,bmw of the boiler world, if you get my meaning . and ideal ,biasi, potterton are daewoo ; )

its all about opinions pal! vaillants have a prob at the moment with pumps (and you can t use another head!?) also heat/exch probs! viessman have very little backup when they do go wrong!

worcesters have a 5 or 7 yr warranty and their figures are a 3% failure rate during warranty period. I ve fitted 100's of worcesters and never had a prob!!

personally agree with the other poster, in general worcester/vaillant are best. I wouldn t fit any bouiler that doesn t have their own engineers (many use subbys)

viessman are new to this country, only time will tell. same with atag, broag etc!

readers steer clear of baxi, vokera, sime, ravenheat, biasi, heatline and saunier duvall !!

i love boiler threads!

what are the problems with vokera, I've had one for a couple of years and the only problem I've had is the condenser freezing up. I've had a consenser wire put in so hopefully it won't happen again if the weather gets cold.

they are a badly built budget boiler...very cheap! never seen a vokera more than 10 yrs old!!

love them because i earn fortunes out of fixing them though!

as for ravenheat.....priced up a pressure gauge for one..£69.0 plus vat
all the decent boilers ie worcester / vaillant...about £22

buy a cheap boiler = expensive parts
expensive boiler = cheap parts

Ravenheat boiler cant be 150,000 btu

The truth is all boilers are more or less made from the same parts suppliers.
How these parts are put together has an impact on the performance and reliability.

Since a boiler is an "essential service device", it doesn't matter how reliable they normally are, it's about how quickly they are dealt with if/when the do fail.
Getting hold of parts ten years down the line, and getting somebody out ASAP is what counts.

Good factory advice and backup also has to be considered.
Sometimes the owner can just call the manufacturer, get advice from a technician, and have the boiler running again in minutes. (condensate pipe issues/resets etc)

I won't even suggest Ravenheat to people. It's not the boilers are that bad (but there not that good either), it's just trying to get advice or somebody out that's the problem.

I always give people two options now. Cheap option is just to get a Biasi.
It might be that i haven't had a single one fail since i started fitting them over eight years a go.They are good value, and the top ones have a good hot water flow rate.

Other than Biasi, i only recommend Worcester Bosch.
I never say they are the best boiler, rather that the back up is second to none.
Parts will be available for ever, and the factory and dealer back up is priceless.
If you have ever had to phone technical support, they are fantastic.
(BTW i'm not a gas fitter, i have them fitted in my properties and customer related work)

When buying, you just have to work out what spec to get.
Most combi boilers will eventually heat a house up, so getting that wrong isn't so bad.
But get a low spec hot water flow rate, and you will be for ever destined to slowing the hot tap to a dribble to get hot water.

I personally have a Worcester 440 CDi floor stander.
It's a beast and way over kill for my house. Fits nicely under the stairs though.
Full speed hot water that never stops, or cools down when running...:D

Those whose hot water is running cold after 5 minutes etc, what make of boiler do you have ? Probably the flow switch or hot water heat exchanger though.

Mines a Baxi mainscombi eco 30

The only problem seems to be when running a bath, you cant have the tap on more than a trickle or it will be a luke warm bath.

As I said before it used to be able to run a hot bath on full pelt.

Hiya Alf, you may get away with giving the heat exchanger a flush here, but failing that it will more than likely be that the heat exchanger needs replacing, that can be expensive though, so dependant upon how old/cheap the boiler is it may be more sensible/economical to have a new boiler installed.

Hope that helps.
