Mark Hughes has given a quick update on some of the City squad's injuries, and there's good news on the progress of Valeri Bojinov.
The Bulgarian striker ruptured his Achilles tendon in the warm-up ahead of the first league game of the season at Villa Park, this blow coming after he missed virtually all of 2007/08 with a cruciate ligament injury.
A practice match at Carrington on Tuesday will hopefully help move the 21-year-old nearer to a full comeback, as the Manager explains:
"We arranged a behind-closed-doors game today, and we were looking for him to play a half or maybe even an hour. That will do him good, but he has been training at full tilt with the rest of the squad for a week now. He's looked good, but what he needs is games."
Of Bojinov's fellow countryman, Martin Petrov, Hughes adds, "Martin is still doing his rehab, and I think he has an appointment with his surgeon very soon. We're hoping that that goes very well for him, and if he gets the green light then he will step up the training and will be close to playing again."
Benjani, missing since half time of the defeat to Everton with a thigh injury, may not be too far away either as Hughes concludes: "Benji is probably a couple of weeks away, he also needs the green light from our medical people but he is usually fit anyway so I would like to think he will be close to coming back after getting the OK."
