Bonfire night versus Halloween

I had a better time at Halloween cos went to a great house party. Bonfires are good but dangerous and if you go to an organised one it's either full of pesky kids or feral chavs lobbing bangers at folk.

It is a no brainer. One is a great opportunity to remind the papists of their wicked past deeds. The other is an imported American load of garbage.

Aha sussed. You're Patrick Bateman from American Psycho. He was a top executive too but freaking crackers with it.

Halloween is...I have no idea what Halloween is about!

GUY FAWKES NIGHT (not bonfire night!) is a celebration of the stopping of a plot to kill the King and Parliament by a group of Catholics who wanted to turn Britain into a Catholic country. As a Roman Catholic I should find irony in this, but hey, it means I get to build a bonfire each year!

Remember, remember the Fifth of November,
The Gunpowder Treason and Plot,
I can think of no reason
Why the Gunpowder Treason
Should ever be forgot.
Guy Fawkes, Guy Fawkes, t'was his intent
To blow up the King and Parli'ment.
Three-score barrels of powder below
To prove old England's overthrow;
By God's providence he was catch'd
With a dark lantern and burning match.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, let the bells ring.
Holloa boys, holloa boys, God save the King!

Very patriotic night. I like the way we celebrate, 400 years on, the stopping of a plot to kill the King.

I was taught at highschool that the gunpowder plot was a conspiracy to frame the Catholics and help make James I more popular because no one liked him. The Catholics had no need to kill James because he was quite lenient towards the them and their religion. No one liked James because he was Scottish, an idiot and believed in the divine power of Kings (so parliament didn't like him).

But out of the two i prefer bonfire night because you don't get little shits knocking on the door, and i get to eat jacket potatoes, parkin, treacle toffee and toffee apples :-) YUMMY! Don't care that a potentially innocent man was tortured and executed, as long as i get my treacle and parkin!
