all this abuse that stevie ireland is currently receiving has set me thinking about players who became scapegoats(?) or targets for what the media always call the "boo-boys"
the first one i can remember was ian bowyer (late 60's) can anybody come up with any others who left because of abuse from city fans and went on to do particularly well

We tend to destroy them before they leave.

Paul Power, Richard Edgehill, Adrian Heath, Gary Megson, Ged Brannan, Shaun Goater, Bert Trautman, Joe Corrigan: we've had millions.

Football ability tends not to come into it.

he's been a "scapegoat" this season coz he's played shite every time he's gone on the pitch

Don't worry he wont be a boo boy for long, tevez hasnt scored in a match

TEVEZ OUT!!

Can remember folk getting on Joe's back early on but 50000+, some say 64000+ came to Bert's testimonial. Can't remember anyone booing Bert.

It's before my time but legend has it he was very unpopular for a while as he was a German.
