mancini will deliver now lets get behind him

I don't think its a matter of getting behind Mancini, because if he is successful, the club is successful and as fans we get to enjoy that success and thats what we all want. However, that doesn't mean we aren't allowed to question his decision making.

We have thrown away a very good opportunity at silverware this season, it doesn't matter who the manager is we have every right to be annoyed that this has happened.

Mancini, as everyone knows has his own way of doing things but when things don't go our way (last night for example) the buck stops with him. If at the end of this season we have won a trophy or we get in the top 4 (hopefully both) then Mancini will take the credit as he has brought in new players and dictated the style of football they play.

On the other hand, when we go out of the Carling Cup in the first game we play in it he has to be questioned.

For what its worth, I don't blame him for not playing as strong as possible line up, because we are lacking in numbers at the moment, but to start as many of the youngsters as he did, was in my opinion naive, and it certainly didn't work.

If we get a positive result against Chelsea, Mancini may feel vindicated in his team selection for the West Brom game. However, he may have just mad a rod for his own back, we're already out of the Carling Cup, so thats one trophy we definitely won't be winning.

If we suffer a poor run in the league or struggle in Europe it won't be long before he starts coming under real scrutiny. Hopefully Mancini knows what he's doing and at the end of the season this will only be a small blemish on a fantastic campaign, but its up to him now to make sure we fare better in the other competitions, 3 points at the weekend would certainly be a great start!

Very good post.

I think you may have misread my utterings.. I have not had a "u-turn", I still support the retention of the manager, I still expect him to bring success... I was just letting a fair amount of steam off as I was hugely pissed off last night with the manager's decsisions regarding the game.

Am I not allowed to voice my anger and concerns? Should I stick to the company line that we all "get behind the manager"?

This forum would be mighty dull if we all did that, now wouldn't it?

And as for how we will all see things differently should we beat Chelsea on Saturday... I won't. I will still be pissed off over last night.

I naively believe that we should have beaten West Brom AND Chelsea... because that's the ambitions I have for City. I expect us to win every game we play in nowadays.

Don't you?

You've jumped to a hell of a lot of conclusions, picking questions i've no idea why as i never touched on anything about what you can and cannot write or how this forum should operate.

Oh and no, i don't expect anything in football, imo that absolutely ludicrous. But i think thats how our fans are going, it explains a lot around the complete over reaction last night and the lack of atmosphere untilwe're 2-0 up; home or away.

And you've made a hell of a lot of assumptions about me.

What makes you think I've done a u-turn? What does it even mean anyway?

I was only making the point that I can still back the manager, yet criticise him when I feel appropriate. And last night I thought it was appropriate.

Well it was for me anyway...

To be fair if you had not gone to the game I am sure you wouldn't feel quite so bad about it all.

I feel for the many blues who made the trip however imo the Carling Cup is the lowest of interest to me hence me not making the trip down.

Top 4 is the holy grail without a shadow of doubt and to be in 3 cup competitions would just be too much when taking into account the injury list at the moment.

Something had to give and I am pretty confident there won't be too many people in the heirarchy at City shedding tears about last night's exit.

spot on fella the top 4 is the only thing that matters this season, I wish to god everyone would get over this trophy thing because. You don't hear the chelsea fans bitching like school girls over a league cup exit.

You missed the most crucial bit out...better financial reward.

Not very romantic to talk about money over trophies but that's the reality of the situation.

True, but tbh, that's not high on my list of priorities when watching City.

We've suddenly got this obsession of winning trophies which i haven't really bought into... of course our owners will demand it, the media will will expect it, but as nice as it would be, as exciting a journey as it would be, it's not my be all and end all following City. If we don't win anything this year, i'll still be there next year.

Er, it's not on mine either, but we need to get the real money coming in soon or Platini will be gunning for us.

I'm not sure you actually read either of my posts, i asked if you had... i didn't state you had. It came across you so much criticising as changing your overall stance on Mancini.

-- Thu Sep 23, 2010 4:46 pm --

I'm lost on your point... i was just highlighting that the defeat last night could still turn out to be a positive long term. Similar to McCarthy's decision last season when going to Utd.

He took the risk, paid the price then went on a run and stayed up... it was the correct decision even if people from all quarters gave him stick for it.

We took the risk last night, paid the price, but we still might benefit going forward. We don't know yet, so we can't draw too much from it yet.

I actually agree with you.
