Right here goes fellas.

I havent ever really watched UFC before tuesday night when i was flicking through the channels and there was a fight on between one black guy and one white guy (the white guy had blonde hair and had a pony tail too).

But what i saw was 2 planks rolling around on the floor for 15 minutes straight and hardly one punch thrown. It was at that point that i came to the conclusion that UFC is fucking wank.

Of course you can get the fights were someone will kick the fuck out of some guy in 10 seconds and knock him out but the sport is still crap.

And all of my mates have the nerve to tell me that UFC is better than boxing!! How can anyone say that? Boxing is probably the most entertaining sport in the world.

Does anybody else think that UFC is wank?

I enjoy both, hard to say which takes more skill, both have guys at the top of their respective profession, with an undoubted talent, but in MMA's case it can be more than one talent/skill!

But I prefer to watch boxing!

Different strokes for different folks. I personally prefer Boxing but I like both. I don't really see how you can conclude that a sport is shit from watching one fight though, watch some more of it before coming to that judgement. They're 2 completely different sports anyway, might as well compare rugby to American football.

The name of the sport is MMA (Mixed martial arts) btw, the UFC is just 1 organization within the sport.

It may help if you watched more than one fight before making your mind up..

I have done iv watched several on youtube to make sure that i wasnt jumping to conclusion that its rubbish and got nothing on boxing.

And to be honest i think im not in the minority thinking that because look at the difference in crowd sizes

There isn't really a difference in crowd sizes.

Hey Stillsy, MMA Fighter here.....
UFC is one organisation, so it's like saying MLS is shit when discussing Football.

MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) is a varied sport where anything goes, including Boxing... so if you conclude that the sport is rubbish then you also conclude that Boxing is rubbish aswell as this is apart of the sport.

"How so? they're just rolling on the ground...."

Well it's far easier to strike stood up when nobody is trying to take you down.
When I spar with friends who come from a boxing background they own me outright as my boxing isn't as good, so my solution is to take their advantage away (their hand strikes) and use my advantage (my wrestling/jiujitsu) to minimalise the risk. watch the Randy Couture Vs. James Toney fight... he made James look like a 12yr old amateur as he simply took away his boxing ability.

Once on the floor using jiujitsu I can work around my opponents body to find a submission, if i see an opening (like maybe a trailing arm/leg) i can attempt the submission and hopefully gain a tap (win)
it makes it easier to get submissions against opponents who aren't aware of jiujitsu, who want to freely "smash their opponent" with punches as they leave their arms trailing after the punch.

The worst opponent for me is a boxer with decent takedown defense, as he can own me stood up and i cant take the guy down (lol)

So when they are "just rolling around" this isn't the case however I have seen fights in MMA where they have just lay ontop of each other and done nothing... this frustrates me more than anyone believe me... lay there and not looked for submissions or ways to get back on their feet.
But %99 of the time they are doing this as they are completely tired and this is one of the main ways to rest and have enough energy to carry on.

My advice is to try the sport yourself before you make a full opinion of it.

I'd be more than happy to invite you to places i've trained at over the years - usually classes are free for first timers.
My classes consist of seperate classes for many different styles of fighting including boxing, muay thai (kickboxing), jiujitsu, judo, greco roman wrestling, and the occasional homosexual tendency ;)

Good post mate but i guess im the kind of guy that prefers to watch people stood up trying to hit each other than rolling on the floor.

I just prefer to watch boxers hitting each other from a standing position than on the floor. It just bores me.
