These guys are 18, they're not 22. They should be waiting for their opportunity, earning it and taking it. Their agents should be encouraging them to be patient too as they are trying to break into a club at the elite levels in Europe. With such money in the game though, the agents will seek a move to enhance playing time knowing that the next move is likely to bring them personally £5m.

We tread a fine line. We bought Mahrez because he will be a major player for us in the league this season and for the next couple while players like Diaz and Foden will be gently introduced with gradually increasing game time. In Foden's case, that is happening now. In Diaz's case, either Pep thinks he is not at Foden's level, or there has been a little acrimony behind the scenes. I suspect it's the former and that is the manager's right. With players of this talent though there is such a demand and the risks are high. We cannot complain though, or players like Gomes from PSG and Garcia from Barcelona turn us into hypocrites while we bemoan the loss of Sancho to Dortmund.

I speak as someone who would forgo some success to bring youth into the team. There is a tremendous buzz about young players coming through that buying ready made talent does not offer. I speak as a fan though, not someone who has invested into the club strategy financially, or who is answerable to the owner and the board. I also speak as someone who lived through decades of relative failure and for whom even a fleeting glimpse of success is an absolute bonus.

I wouldn't blame Diaz for moving on, especially after the success that he's seen Sancho have in Germany. Sancho has gone from being his peer to being lauded across the world for his performances in both Bundesliga and Champions League football, which has then led to an international call-up.

I'd imagine that he sees himself as a player that can achieve the same, if not more, and will take the opportunity to play every week elsewhere.

Not sure where it leaves us in terms of youth development though. Losing 2/3 of the brightest talents in a generation is pretty disappointing.

Hope Diaz stays and prospers as City grow.
The hard part is keeping everybody happy & motivated.
We’re in safe hands with Pep & Khaldoon so I’m confident it will work out for us. We may have to accept, sadly, that some players who become fans favourites do go elsewhere. We can only play 11 at one time.

You are spot on. We have an unbelievably good leadership team and have to accept their decisions. We can debate them but if we look where we are, and where we were, my god my walks down Claremont Road to watch Jamie Pollock seem a world away.

The difficulty is that we are buying the world's top young talent when they are 14 and 15. Three years in, they are in demand and believe they should play. In the modern era, patience is a rare commodity, for players and for fans.

I could understand Dortmund, as he would look to follow Sancho's example.

If he went to Real Madrid I would be disappointed, only club less likely to play him than us!

Not sure how much more we can do in reality. People suggesting he should get as much game time as foden are not being realistic. There isn't enough room to get both of them on the bench every game, foden gets preference because he's better and more suited to the team. Who do you drop to put Diaz on the bench every week?

We offered him a good contract and tried to to send him to La Liga for a season long loan with Girona. By the look of it he has stool his nose up at both. A real shame for us really but we can't say we didn't try but bottom line we won't be forced to give a player game time when pep doesn't think he should get it.

Wasn't it City's own research that showed that sumat like 90% of the players in the CL semi final stages were playing regular first team football at 17/18 years old?

Brahim is 19 now and not playing *any* football. Not even EDS football. I suspect the reason he doesn't get games is simply because Foden has the solitary youth spot taken up. Not cos he's any less talented, or cos of acrimony. Just isn't the space for him.

Don’t agree with you on that. There’s loads of players now and in the past who are 18 that started and got plenty of opportunity. Foden and Diaz are Good enough now imonto be getting a lot more game time this season

If Foden for instance has to wait 3/4 years more to get regular game time then he will be leaving. Playing an 18 year old doesn’t mean we will automatically lose or play bad if they are good enough

What does regular mean though, in the context of the research?

For clarity, I would like him to play. I would like Foden to play. I believe they are best served with gradually increasing minutes in progressively more important tournaments. I do not know what is happening with Diaz just at this moment and I would like to.
