Don’t agree with you on that. There’s loads of players now and in the past who are 18 that started and got plenty of opportunity. Foden and Diaz are Good enough now imonto be getting a lot more game time this season

If Foden for instance has to wait 3/4 years more to get regular game time then he will be leaving. Playing an 18 year old doesn’t mean we will automatically lose or play bad if they are good enough

There are not loads of players who currently break through into European elite teams at 18, that's my point.
Of course we will not automatically lose or play less well, these two are potentially two of the world's great players. I am saying that we, and they, should be patient and be happy with gradually increasing time on the pitch.

I trust in Pep completely, he has been recognised in the past for the development of youth players, so I will not criticise the club because ultimately it’s his and the players themselves call.

However there are only so many playing spots available, we have a top quality side, and if players like Sancho and maybe Diaz choose not to sign a contract and go elsewhere, then so be it. I am sure the club have done what they can, but we are chasing records and trophies, why should we give up on that by trying to guarantee game time to players who clearly aren’t yet ready.

I read the posts demanding game time for Roberts, but apart from one good season for Celtic, he hasn’t really torn it up elsewhere.

I personally want Diaz to stay, and show a similar mentality to Zinchenko, rather than Sancho.
But what would that mentality earn him? Sancho is the talk of world football. What’s Zinchenko? He’s hardly going to look at the two and think “I wanna follow in Oleks’ footsteps”. The right decision for Diaz is to leave, unfortunately.

Being the talk of world football now does not make a great player or a long, medal strewn future. Many players have been huge and have fallen away.

The Sancho situation was different as Diaz is part of the first team squad. Which must be very enjoyable for him and gaining great experience playing with these players consistently. Sancho’s situation was a bit more uncertain.

I actually believe the easier option would be to renew with City. I’m with you that for him to leave is the best decision.

It’s not easy bringing youth through in a competition as tough as the Premier League. The bench spot and minutes once we go 3 up go to Foden. So where does Diaz get game time from outside the odd cup game.

But why should the minutes go just to Foden - maybe they should alternate? It would be possible to have both on the bench but then I guess a senior pro is going to miss out and maybe getting Jesus firing again is more important in the short term than giving Diaz minutes. I think maybe Kun and Jesus's fitness/injuries this year is going to have a big bearing on Brahim's opportunities and progress.

According to Jason Wilcox, the club did their own research that over the past decade, on average 9/11 players starting in a Champions League quarter-final* and above was playing regular senior football at 18. The top players in the world start playing early.

When your own club is coming up with research like that, how can you expect kids to be happy at 2 or 3 league cup games a season and maybe a meaningless champions league game with the other kids if we win the group early?

What do they mean by 'regular senior football'?
On loan at lower level? Playing for B teams?

I don't know, that's all he said in the interview. Whatever it is, it's not sitting in the stands watching the first team every week except 3 or 4.

The kids need to play. They need to either be given a decent amount of time here (like Foden seems to be on course for) or they need to be loaned out.

In order to loan them out, we have get them on long contracts. In order to convince them to do that, they need to see it can lead to something, that they're not just wasting their time, and they can get into the first team from it.

Until the club manages to do that, we're going to get more and more people like Sancho & Brahim leaving at 18 when we've spent years developing them because there's just so many reasons to go, and very few reasons to stay.

Agreed, but it does make a difference when we don't have the option of bringing our lads through in a B team

Except we do. We have NAC Breda, Girona, NYCFC, Tolouse. We have more places to get kids game time than anyone else in the world. OK it's not the perfect parallel team like in Spain where kids can go from 1st team to B team midseason, but it's better than anyone else in this country has, and they are places where we can get our kids to go and play.

The problem is someone like Brahim will have looked at Maffeo & Angelino and seen that at the moment it doesn't seem to matter how well you do on loan, it's still not a path to the first team.
