According to Jason Wilcox, the club did their own research that over the past decade, on average 9/11 players starting in a Champions League quarter-final* and above was playing regular senior football at 18. The top players in the world start playing early.

When your own club is coming up with research like that, how can you expect kids to be happy at 2 or 3 league cup games a season and maybe a meaningless champions league game with the other kids if we win the group early?

The road block is the prem league not many clubs are giving 17/18 year olds a run, especially the top six clubs.

Other clubs give 19/20/21 year olds game time, usually after a loan or two, but we're losing our kids before they get to that age because they think there's no path here.

I think we are also losing them because they are the very best. They have choices and I understand why they may be tempted elsewhere. It is a dilemma for us but when a young player really makes it, we will have some evidence to reassure those who are doubtful.

he wont walk into a Real Madrid side. I wonder if our kids expectations are realistic. I can understand them leaving for Dortmund if they are going to play ala Sancho. I can't understand them going to the likes of Madrid though. I still believe the Academy is primarily a footballer farm and a very successful one. If we get one or two who are good enough to be in the first team at 18 (Foden) then its all we can expect. Brahim is nowhere near the level of Raz, Mahrez or Sane and I fully expect him to go to get game time.
