Did you see the video in the comments underneath?Attempted murder is about the hardest criminal offence to prove, as the jury needs to be sure that the defendant intended to kill the )non-deceased) victim, no such intent to kill being required to prove a murder to the prevailing standard. And the alternative for juries is always s18, which has a maximum sentence of life anyway. It’s not like an acquittal based on a failure to prove intent to kill means a walk out. Anyone guilty of s18 as an alternative to attempted murder is looking at a starting point of fifteen years, will serve ten. That’s a long stretch.
Nothing in that clip looks remotely like attempted murder, but Brazilian law will be different.
Still a bit nuts, though!

I do wonder if this might be a salutary lesson and that pundits and managers alike should stop bad mouthing the referee every chance they get?You can’t have people physically attacking the ref. That’s when civilisation starts to come to an end.
I appreciate this was Brazil but their pundits, managers and fans are likely not much different to us and you only need to look at the increase in assaults on Sunday mornings to see it won’t be long before this story is replicated here (if it hasn’t been already of course). It’s one of two things this great game of ours could do with following rugby’s lead on (sin bins being the other one).
