I'm guessing you are referring to Leeds 1968 league cup/fairs cup win. According to Wikipedia, UEFA did not organise or recognise the Fairs cup so do not acknowledge it as a European competition. On that basis, I'm more than happy to claim City were the first side to win a double including a European trophy.
The Fairs Cup at that time was organised by FIFA and not UEFA; was invitation only and entry not on football merit; and was a limited competition which was, in effect, played across two seasons (Leeds' two legged final was played the following season) So you are correct.. City was the first English club to win both full domestic and European trophies in the same season.
