I assume he doesn't rant and rave about his family's money subsididing his private education at Newlands Prep and Charterhouse Public School.

Completely agree PB, people like Glanville who were brought up learning of the halcyon days of Empire think anyone with ambition and 'New Money' is "ghastly". Wealth and success should be the preserve of the establishment, and young oiks, particularly northern ones, should accept their place, eat chips, and die.

The last four years as a City fan have been an object lesson in snobbery, or rather in being on the receiving end of it.

It never fails to amuse me how much "old" money looks down its nose at others whilst simultaneously being in a perpetual state of denial about where their families wealth came from in the first place.

Dig deep enough and many families' wealth came about through duress, via exploitation or by dishonest means. I don't know if the Glanville family made their money out of being Victorian mill owners or Jamaican slave merchants, or whether in fact it was as a result of honest toil, but I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if young Brian's school fees originated from a source that was far more "ghastly" than drilling for oil.

His attitude sums up why Britain will never be an economic power again. All the wealth should be kept for the elite few who had the good sense to be born in to the right family, and anyone with the ambition to join the financial elite is considered "ghastly" by those already there.

Funny how in America making something of yourself and achieving something is called the American Dream, and in England it's called being "ghastly". What a ****.

Re: Brian Glanville

Managed to listen to 3 minutes of the interview before having to turn it off as I couldnt stand anymore of the bile coming out of his mouth.

In a word he is a 'Prick' of the highest order and I was not prepared to waste anymore minutes of my life listening to it!

Re: Brian Glanville

i dont understand with people being so bitter towards us, well i do but i was listening to talksport yesterday and the bitterness towards city was cringeworthy from sam matterface, i ended up questioning him on this and ofcourse he said he doesnt its just the way we pay players big money so no 1 else can buy them when we get bored ect... (something along those lines)

i dont see team sky or any top F1 team being slated for having more money than others and buying the best in the sport.... it's the same in the shopping world asda is always going to beat mr patels corner shop.

This is why I believe we are so well placed to benefit from the explosion of interest in the English game in the USA.

The rags to riches narrative of this football club will appeal enormously to Americans especially when you consider that it was the support of City fans in the dark days of the nineties that gave the club the CPR it required to arrive at where we find ourselves today. Without us there would have been no ADUG takeover, of that I am sure.

It is a wonderful story which Glanville could never appreciate because his heart is so full of bile and darkness.

Re: Brian Glanville

I liken him to Brian Sewell . So wouldnt listen to anything he has to say as its irrelavent and from someone not connected to the real world.
