Brian Marwood's future in doubt as Manchester City ponder employing Chelsea's Frank Arnesen - report

Brian Marwood's future at Manchester City is believed to be in doubt, as the club reportedly want to bring in Chelsea's soon-to-be-former director of football, Frank Arnesen.

The Dane is thought to have played a pivotal role in bringing players such as John Obi Mikel and Salomon Kalou to Stamford Bridge. And with Carlos Tevez thought to be experiencing an irreparably damaged relationship with Marwood, there has been some speculation concerning his future.

Now The Mirror claims that the 54-year-old Arnesen is at the listening end of an offer from the Eastlands outfit, despite reportedly being touted to take up a position at Ajax at the end of the season, when he is due to part ways with Chelsea.

WTF...?

Arnesen seems to be to loyalty what Gary Nutter is to a Nobel Peace Prize. No sooner has he gained decent employment with a club than he's fuckin' 'em off for a better offer somewhere else. He's one of football's nomads. We want long term from these people. Anyway, if Carlos is soddin' off in August . . . . . . . . . .

This would be a step backwards - Arnesen main job was to bring youth though to Chelsea first team. Failed miserable! Marwood has not had the chance to show if he will deliver - he should be. Further more if Tevez or any player has a problem with the Marwood, they should be the ones to leave.

This story has been doing the rounds in danish media, without quotes in complete speculation pieces, would be surprised if there is any truth in this.

City have been rumoured to be after a technical director type for a while. For instance, we were supposed to be after Baldini (sp?), the guy who's on Fabio's staff with England and who's occupied that role at Italian clubs in the past. If there's any truth in that, it wouldn't be altogether surprising if we were sounding out Arnesen.

Thing is, everyone leaps to the conclusion that bringing such a person in would automatically put Marwood under threat. I really don't think so. Marwood's function is really on the administrative side, unlike a technical director's. So the two roles would actually complement one another.

Marwood has done a brilliant job, even though I never realised how good a job he has done. For me the stability of Chairman, Marwood Cook and Manager will bring sucess to our club. It would be a typical city thing to do to go and change that especially half way through a season. As far as I am concerned rather have Marwood and continuity of the management even if that means Tevez has to go.

IF there's any truth in this we should consider whether Chelsea's off-field changes have helped them in the last few years.
