Train gets in about 11.30 bit early for overpriced stadium lager
You don’t need to go to the stadium, certainly not that early for a 5.30 kick off. There are 12 pubs within a five minute walk of Brighton station. The no-no pubs (home fans only) are the Queens Head, Railway Bell, Grand Central - all right outside station entrance. For real ale drinkers go to the Evening Star in Surrey Street, 200 yards from station. Down Trafalgar Street, which goes under the concourse of Brighton station, is the Prince Albert and Lord Nelson - both cracking pubs. Many, many more all within staggering distance - seek and Ye shall find.
The designated away pub is a Spoons job - the Brighthelm - which is in West Street. From the station go directly straight down Queens Road, past the Clock Tower, into West Street. Pub will be on your right hand side. If you get your feet wet you’ve missed it as the waves lap round your ankles!
To get to the Amex get to Brighton station at least half an hour (or more) before kick off. There will be a queuing system in operation to catch trains to Falmer (usually takes about 8 minutes). Don’t worry about lengths of queue, they hold you back until a train comes in, approx every 10 minutes. The stadium is right next to Falmer station. By the way, train fare to/from the Amex is included in your match ticket.
After the game the concourse bars are open for a couple of hours so you can enjoy a couple of pints and allow the queues for the trains to die down.
Have a great day out but just leave us a point or three!
