Brighton (h) post-match thread

Your not going to click at the level you expect every game but a win is a win and that is always more important than the performance.

We have one day more than our next opponents to recover so I expect a better effort of Sunday.

Not a vintage performance by any means, but a big three points nonetheless. Conditions weren’t ideal and Brighton are a decent side, so the win is all that matters. Pretty stressful towards the end though. The less said about Sterling’s penalty, the better.

Second half we definitely looked tired and a few players such as Cancelo, Rodri, Zinchenko, Bernardo gave the ball away a few times. Even think Kev and Stones did once as well.

Nobody was outstanding, most were all good throughout.

Jesus and Sterling both poor when they came on.

3 points. Should have been 2/3 - 0 though.

Three points and a clean sheet, take it and move on.
Worrying though that some if those who had been playing really well tonight regressed to their previous form. Gundo, Zinchenko, Cancelo and even at times Stones looked shaky second half. Hope it was just a bad night.
Pep’s eternal battle with his inner smartarse led to some peculiar decisions, none more so than putting Jesus on the wing when the performance was crying out for a focal point up front
You are over-the-top critical. Pep changed the system and Cancelo struggled, because Riyad was actually running his ass out. But Jesus on the left and Phil on the right was one of Pep's brain freezes. ZInchenko was excellent, he only made one wrong pass , but was working himself into ground and defended really well.

We got the 3 points and all that but a decent side would have turned us over tonight, no question.

Far too open from the start, Zinchenko got done by the same one-two all night and a rare (recent) off-day from Gundogan exposed just how limited a player Rodri is. Presumably Pep has little choice at the moment given injuries and illness but Mahrez can’t even do it against the bottom sides now, so he serves no purpose. We need a proper clear-out in the summer regardless of what happens during the reminder of the season

Positives were Bernardo, Kev looking more interested and Foden showing again that he can get us 20 goals a season from midfield.

But, big picture, Dias and Stones will be the difference between possibly doing something this year or finishing mid-table.
