Broken fan (I think)

Laptop keeps overheating, I think, and puts itself into sleep mode. So I think one or the fan has broken in the laptop, a Dell Inspiron.

It first happened when it was on my bed, obv I know it's supposed to be on a flat surface blah blah.. But I also tweaked the options of the power, so I've put it back to default just now hoping that was it.

Anyone had this happen with their Dell or other laptop, anyway it's still under warrenty, and i've got accidental cover with currys/pc world anyway.

Shall I just send it off, or is it in the settings? I know I should just send it off as its free repair, but it's my primary pc, and thank fuck i've just finished uni for the year.. but it will mean I can't come on here/play footy man/download and watch films and tv etc for a few weeks, i'll be bored shitless.

If it was on the bed you were blocking the vents. The main thing then to go is the gpu soldering.
If it is, it's new lappy time mate as the cost of fixing it is probably more than the lappy is worth.

Never ever put a lappy just on the covers of a bed mate, major no-no.

Yeah I know, stupid thing to do. Reckon the cooling units are worth getting? like this?

The currys one is all inclusive cover, and as said accidental, so they'll either fix it if possible or just give me money for a new one, which is good seeing as my lappy is only 7/8 months old.

My old acer was fine and used it over 4 years, some or most was on bed cover too!! It did get hot but never had any problems.

And I did pm you about this ahaha and you said just send it off, I remember now. I'll back everything up and send it off next week.
