What are the chances of Reus leaving this Summer?

Being greedy here but I would love him to be a City player in the Summer.
Would say very low. His a hometown boy from the youth academy, all be it he left and returned. I think he and Hummels will give Dortmund one last season to get their act together. He has a 30 million euro release clause that kicks in the summer of 2015. If Dortmund do not invest heavily in the summer, then h will probably leave then. I am a big fan of him too and think he would be brilliant in the City team.

I love Edin but he will be 29 next season and maybe I would consider looking for a younger option, I know we are not a selling club but if around 20m came in I think City will take it, either that or part exchange plus cash with Dortmund for Reus.

I will be happy if Edin stays though, he does a job for us and will get us 20-25 goals in all competitions in a season.

I don't see Dortmund spending 20 million on a 29 year old striker and I am not sure Dzeko would tage the wage cut. With Aguero's injury problems and the number of games City play he is always going to get his fair share of matches.

Looks like one of the big guns will be going down: Stuttgart of Hamburg. If Stuttgart go then Werner has to be signed up by a big club. Wolfsburg Gladbach, Mainz and Leverkusen all fighting for fourth, whilst Schalke and Dortmund fight it out for second.

I guess it is good to have different kind of strikers. But they have to live with not getting the full match time... That can be a big problem as strikers need to have the right mentality to be able to perform...

Hang on, you said one page back that it "looks like they will lose Reus". Tbf I don't think he will leave either.

-- Mon Mar 31, 2014 10:05 am --

I agree with that. Dortmund have already bought Ramos and will almost certainly move for Volland, they don't need Dzeko.

I wasn't clear on that line I meant lose Reus in the summer or maybe even January of 2015, because they won't invest properly. That's why I said this a little bit later on.

However, they won't they will buy Sahin, Ramos and maybe Volland at best. They will maybe fall behind Schalke and finally Reus and Hummels will be off, leaving them without any world class players.

They do need a world class 10 and a replacement for Gundogan. Without Reus this season they probably would still be fighting for the Europa League/last CL place.

-- Mon Mar 31, 2014 1:41 pm --

I agree, which is why it's important to have the right balance in a squad.

The Bayern game should be a wake up call to the Bundesliga about what is happening to the league. I don't like that Klopp is trying to make out that Madrid are this unbeatable force either. Madrid are not really stronger than last season and certainly not stronger than the team Bayern beat 2 years ago. It seems to me like too many teams are happy losing to Bayern, because they are playing football on another planet, when in truth they should stop making excuses.

Hamburger SV - B.Leverkusen 2:1 (1:0)
Tore: 1:0 Calhanoglu (4.), 1:1 Brandt (59.), 2:1 Westermann (82.)
Zuschauer: 47.000

That young lad Calhanoglu is really saving HSV. Hyypiä seemts to face an early end as Leverkusen coach. I think, the "pills" will miss next years Champions League.

and there it is: Hyypiä sacked as Bayer Leverkusen coach.
Shame for Hypia, but they have been awful since the winter break and now look like they will miss out on the Champions League, which would set them back massively.

Bayern finally lost today, though it appears they played a C team. I wonder if it would be considered a good season if they just won the league and lost the cup to Dortmund.

Dortmund were woeful in the first half, but picked up when Sahin and Aubemayang went off. Jojic looks okay, but they have been carried by Reus and Lewandowski so much this season. Take out Reus especially and they would be struggling to get a Europa League place and would never have got out of their group. Lewandowski is the most complete striker in the world. He just keeps on improving year after year. If I had to sign one striker in the world it would probably be him (Suarez too much trouble off the field). Reus is very underrated too; for me he is currently better than Bale. Hard to see how they are going to stay ahead of Schalke when Lewandowski goes let alone try and catch Bayern.

No. The answer is very easy.

Bayern had to play the C team - if you look what options are left for Wednesday's match.

The bench on Wednesday will look like this:

Leopold Zingerle, 19, usually the reserve keeper of the U23
Sallahi, 18 - left fullback
Höjbjerg, 18 - central midfield
Weiser, 19 - right fullback, right offensive midfield
Pizarro, 35 - striker
van Buyten, 35 - defense
Mandzukic (or Müller or Götze)

So you just do not risk to much of your starting players for Wednesday. Kroos was the only one that for sure will start Wednesday and played all 90 minutes.

Mandzukic played 90 minutes, Götze 45, Müller 27 - Götze and Müller probably would have played less if Shaqiri did not get injured and the match would have run different. He substituted Pizarro and not Mandzukic. Right now I think he will try to play like Tuesday but this time right. Not leave Müller alone in front of the "dynamic duo" (Schweinsteiger and Kroos - the dynamic was ironic if you did not remark it) but in combination with Götze - both have a very good understanding. And if that does not work play with Mandzukic and Müller and go for headers. Mandzukic alone in between the United defense will just look similar to the Arsenal matches.

The first solution just offers more ball possession. And Bayern can wait as a 0:0 gets them through. And Mandzukic already has 2 yellow cards - playing him 90 minutes in such a match with his usual playstyle guarantees the next yellow card especially as he probably is the first choice in matches against the Spanish teams were his physics really bring an advantage.

And I think today's match showed a lot where the youngsters stand. Höjbjerg is not far away from the first team. If Kroos should really leave there is no need for an acquisation as that would make the way free for him. And for him it would best not to get loaned out. I do not think he would need it and should get more and more match time. I would not be afraid if he would get subbed into a CL match.

Weiser will be a very good fullback - but I do not know if he really can be top quality. He could do his job in the Bundesliga - but I am not sure if I want to see him in international matches - not now. And Sallahi does not have the same quality.

United were pretty depleted themselves for the first game. RVP, Nani, Mata, Rafael, Evra and Evans were all missing. I have always said and given reasons why Pep's Bayern, though more ruthless in the league are actually a lot weaker than Heynckes. Arsenal and United are not strong teams at the moment. I don't think the United/Arsenal teams that played Bayern are even in the top 4 strongest in England. Madrid are favourites and their current team is very good, but it's not better than the one Heynckes beat in 2012. They Bayern of 2013 were a fair amount better than even the 2012 version.

I think it would be a mistake to try and keep possession in an attempt to close out the game. United are not a great side to be feared and that will play into Moyes hands. The longer the game stays 0-0 the United will grow in belief and Bayern will get nervous. At 0-0 all it takes is one mistake to completely turn things around. I think it would be better for Bayern to take the game by the scruff of the neck and try and win it.

The summer market could be opening up for Dortmund.

Lukaku has said he likes Everton, but he has been learning German all year. The man already speaks like 5 languages, so learning German means he is probably considering a career move. Will cost at least 20 million pounds, because Chelsea want to make a profit, but might be worth the gamble.

Holtby has been performing well for Fulham and wants to return to the Bundesliga. Would be cheap.

Ozil has received a lot of criticism from the British media. I think it's unlikely that Arsene the man who convinced him to come will still be there next season. I doubt Podolski will be there either. Even a chance they don't make top 4. He could be sold to raise funds to strengthen priority areas.

Schalke are messing up with Meyer. Have too many similar players and cannot fit them all in the same team. Would be tempted to sell at a reasonable price.

At the same time Liverpool and Tottenham were both interested in Mkhitaryan and would be tempted to make an offer for over 20 million pounds I think.

Barcelona will probably go for Luiz, which means no competition for Hummels to leave.

Gundogan could be sold for 15-20 million even with his injuries to a number of teams.

It's a huge opportunity and they need to play it correctly after the complete disaster of the 2013 summer.

.

no.
Nothing is impossible in football. I don't think Draxler is going to leave in the summer now (nobody seems to be in for him anymore) and he wants to be no10 (though he shouldn't be). Boateng no matter where he is told to play, ends up playing in that role. Goretzka is probably best there too. Something has to give or else the youngsters just won't fulfill their potential. Either Boateng or Meyer has to be sold in the summer and the money reinvested in other areas.

Boateng was playing no 10 yesterday, as Meyer needed a rest. During the match he and Draxler decided to change positions with Goretzka, because Boateng felt much more comfortable on the no.8 position. And there he will play with Goretzka on his side next season.

It is Meyer or Draxler on no.10. And it is more likely that Draxler will leave. And Farfan.
Schalke´s plan is to attack BVB as No.2 in germany next season. Why on earth should we sell our biggest talent to Dortmund then?

Boateng is not fit enough to play 8. I missed the game yesterday so not sure how he played, but he just does not do the defensive work. Even when he is playing 8 he just leaves Neustadter exposed. A Goretzka/Boateng partnership is far too attacking in midfield and will only lead to more scorelines like you had against Madrid. If Boateng is going to play 8 then he needs to get fit and actually contribute defensively, which is something he has refused to do all through out his career and nothing suggest he will change. It's why Milan ultimately had to play him out wide.

Draxler looked dead set to leave, but things changed and I doubt he would want to go to Arsenal now. Maybe Liverpool and possibly Monaco are probably the only Champions League clubs that would go for him now.

Selling top talent to rivals is something foreign to English and German football, but happens in Italy all the time. Sometimes though it makes sense to sell a top player to strengthen your weak areas. Mourinho did it this January by selling Mata, Chelsea's 2nd best player and twice player of the season to United, so he could strengthen the team with Matic.

I think it would be best for Schalke to sell Boateng and Farfan, and then use the money to buy an experienced defensive midfielder and centre back.

----Huntelaar
Draxler----Meyer----Sam
-----Goretzka-----New Defensive Midfieldr
Kolasnic/Aoga-----New Centre Back-----Matip----Hoger

A Schalke team that looks like that with a good manager can do a lot of damage, but I don't see anybody in the club making those decisions. I also would not bet on the club turning down a 25 million pound bid for any of their players. Huntelaar is rumoured to have a minimum release fee of 15 million, Draxler 37 million and Meyer 25 million.

EDIT

Schalke need to be very careful and learn from Arsenal. Talented youngsters if not given the proper leadership will become bottlers and just get hammered against the best teams. Schalke have already shown signs of that. They have the best youth system in Germany and probably top 5 in the whole of Europe. Even so a generation of players they have now, does not come about often and they need to take advantage or else one by one they will move to a bigger club.

we will buy a second goalkeeper, a right back, a left winger, if Draxler leaves and a second striker, if Szalai goes.
we have 7 CBs: Matip, Höwedes, Santana, Papadopoulos, Ayhan, Kolasinac, Kirchhoff. I can´t imagine, we buy a new one.
