the 54th club in Bundesliga history. Let´s see, if they can do better than the newcomers Greuther Fürth and SC Paderborn
I'll be honest, it's going to be hard and we have to be favourites for relegation. But with the backing of Audi we can hopefully attract some really good players, something Fuerth and Paderborn haven't really done. Whatever happens next season will be great for the future and publicity of the club.

I woke up this morning and went to Augsburg.

I was stood in the Hannover end and it was a good atmosphere, which I imagine was largely due to the performance. Three goals, three red cards, a penalty, and generally incident packed, it was a good game to attend.

When it really mattered, the Hannover players turned up, with the exception of Sakai. Someone needs to check if he had money on an Augsburg win.

Salif Sane and Leon Andreason played really well. It a difficult to tell whether City have players already at that level ready to step up from the academy like Fofana, but if not it would be worth a punt on Sane. He's built like Yaya but isn't technically as gifted, and yet he dominated everything in the air, and alleviated pressure in possession.

City have been linked with Augsburg's left back, Abdul Rahman Baba, but I wasn't overly impressed. Good first touch but he didn't get involved in the game enough. Having said that he won a penalty, but in my opinion was also at fault for the first Hannover goal when he challenged for a header and didn't get anywhere near.

Heading to the big traditionsverein game tomorrow, Ingolstadt v RB Leipzig. My flight home afterwards is a little pressed for time because Ingolstadt haven't got a proper tram or bus to take you back to the hbf. As you're now a member, I think you should have a word Alex!
I think the reason behind that would be that you're probably one of the first football tourists ever! Having said that there are 16 Raith Rovers fans at the game today, as their town is twinned with Ingolstadt!

Are you including time for celebrating promotion too!? It's a massive game definitely so I'll keep quiet until after the final whistle!

I didnt know Raith was twinned with Ingolstadt

Well, another good trip done, and the planning will soon begin for next season. Probably one of the more stressful trips, as I hadn't left much room for any delays in the various modes of public transport I used. Thankfully all went to plan though.

I'd told you about the Augsburg v Hannover game, but Augsburg (the city) was better than I had expected. We had a meal in the Ratskeller which happened to have happy hour on cocktails, and wandered from bar to bar after that. I'm impressed with how coherent my previous post was because I was rather drunk when I wrote it.

Sunday we got up (slightly hungover) and headed to Ingolstadt. Having not done any prior research on the city itself, I had anticipated a really industrial town with nothing of note inside it. Although I didn't see too much of it, I was again surprised by a picturesque little City which sits on the Danube, and I am reliably informed it is the setting of Frankenstein.

Anyway, moving on to the football.... From the outside, the Audi Sportpark is far better than Augsburgs' SGL stadium - it looks finished for a start. Inside its ok with the two stands running down the side of the pitch, which are probably a similar size to those at the City Academy Stadium, but this is the same height all round so the stands behind the goals mean capacity is higher. Its a bit weird because just to the left of the standing section where I was, there is a seated block and there is no way those sitting could have seen the majority of the pitch because those standing would have blocked their view. Thats my main criticism of design of this stadium. Otherwise its good (for the size), and the ticket only cost about £7 too.

The supporters were noisy, and surprisingly proud of being formed in 2004. By coincidence I read a decent article today, explaining their rise which I had presumed was entirely Audi funded, but seemingly not. http://www.espnfc.com/blog/espn-fc-...adts-remarkable-rise-to-the-german-bundesliga

The game was ok. Not quite the drama of the previous day, and in the first half you could sense the nerves from both supporters and players. The second goal was an absolute howler from the RB keeper, but it led to wild celebrations in the stands. Unfortunately, whilst I was able to see the full time whistle, and the immediate celebrations afterwards, we had to get a taxi back to the train station before they lifted the trophy so I missed that.

Congratulations to them and enjoy the Bundesliga Alex, but I have no intention of becoming the 2nd English member.

I wish I had been able to go to the Allianz as well. I saw it lit up in blue from the plane, and apparently 68,500 had been to see 1860 play Nürnberg, and the majority left happy, as they have a better chance of staying in Buli 2. Both leagues have incredibly close relegation battles to be decided on the last day.

At the risk of upsetting some of our German friends can I wish Hamburg a lucky break against Schalke on Saturday.

i don´t mind. Many german fans started to hate HSV in recent years because they escaped so often with the most of luck a club can have. Also many hate the clock in their ground showing the time since the start of the Bundesliga as they are the only club that plays Bundesliga right from the start. It´s quite funny that a club that has been champions of europe and germany has no other pride left than that. Even their mascot, a dinosaur, is about the fact of never been relegated as they are nicknamed the "Dinos". And many fans (not me) wish that this sort of cult ends now.

You're absolutely right, but I'm not sure how many City fans are aware of the wider significance of the game this Saturday. (not dissimilar to Everton v Wimbledon in the 90s)

I suppose the clock can be quite nauseating for supporters of other German teams, but the fact that Hamburg are the only team to play every season since the creation of the Bundesliga in 1963 is quite impressive.

I might be in a minority, but I prefer Hamburg to the self appointed voice for the downtrodden masses on the Reeperbahn. In fact I travelled to 3 Hamburg games last season, one of which was the 3-0 defeat to Schalke.

Whai I can't understand is where all the money went from the sale of Van Buyten, Kompany, De Jong, and Boateng. Hamburg should be contenders for the Champions League, but they're getting worse.

Their only hope left for HSV is Roberto di Matteo, the coach, who makes every player worse within months. He will manage another Schalke fail on saturday. As i´m sure that VFB beats Paderborn it´s up to the match between Freiburg and 96. Crazy, 4 out of 6 relegation candidates in two matches.

Boateng and Lewandowski are supposed to have had a bit of a dust up at training today, not an entirely happy camp at Bayern?

I hope Lewandowski kicked the absolute shit out of him.

I certainly hope Hamburg go down...I just cant stand them at all. They wasted sp much money in the last couple of years and always managed to somehow escape relegation....

They really deserve it and it will hopefully shut their stupid fans up, who think HSV are something special, just because of their history. (Liverpool anyone?)

If they go down I will take great pleasure in the stupid fucking clock getting reset on Saturday.

Other than that...last away game of the season, massive fee incomming. :(

Fair enough mate. I’d never thought of Hamburg supporters as the Bundesliga equivalent of Liverpool, but I can see your point.

I suppose it’s different when you’re not emotionally attached, so if I confessed to supporting Hamburg, Fortuna Dusseldorf, and Schalke (for completely different reasons) I would probably face the same reaction as a German walking into my pub and claiming allegiance to City, West ham, and Everton.

Anyway, I still hope Hamburg stay up.

To be perfectly honest...I should be happy if they stay up, simply because they are one of the "old guard" with a huge following etc. Its simply more fun to play against them and have a sold out away section than playing against Ingolstadt, Fürth, Wolfsburg etc. who will barely bring any fans at all.

I would assume you prefer playing against Newcastle as well, rather than playing against Fulham....

BUT (and I like big BUTs) they deserve to go down and I want them to experience what it feels like to play against the likes of Heidenheim, Aue etc. in the 2nd division....should be a humbling experience.

Maybe I am just a bit bitter as Frankfurt, Nürnberg and Hamburg used to be the last remaining founding members of the Bundesliga who never played in the 2nd division, until it went downhill for us and Nürnberg.

Guess that's why I developed an irrational hatred against them when they came up with the shitty clock thing....

..

Guess, you mixed up Nürnberg with Kaiserslautern? Nürnberg already went down after their championship season in the 1960s (the only club who ever did this, and of course only they could manage such a stupid thing)

by the way: founding members of the Bundesiiga

1.FC Köln
Meidericher SV (MSV Duisburg)
Eintracht Frankfurt
Borussia Dortmund
VfB Stuttgart
Hamburger SV
1860 München
FC Schalke 04
1. FC Nürnberg
Werder Bremen
Eintracht Braunschweig
1. FC Kaiserslautern
Karlsruher SC
Hertha BSC
Preußen Münster
1. FC Saarbrücken

Only Münster disappeared forever (League 3), Saarbrücken is long gone (Regionalliga, 4th division). All others are at least Bundesliga 2

Now that's funny. I wonder if there's an English team who have achieved something similarly stupid to Nurnburg?
Oh and is that the Munster that's quite close to Gelesenkirchen? All you would need is Bochum, Duisburg, and Essen back in the Bundesliga, and every week would be a local derby.
