Anyone got a link to the DFB Cup draw?
So my plan’s finally coming into action. Friday September 18th-Sunday 27th
Friday Bochum v Fortuna Dusseldorf
Saturday: Koln v Monchengladbach
Sunday: Duisburg v FSV Frankfurt (and possibly Dortmund v Leverkusen)
Tuesday: Kaiserslautern v Nurnberg
Wednesday: Leverkusen v Mainz
Friday: Koln v Ingolstadt
Saturday: Hamburg c Schalke
Possibly Kassel on the Monday, and I’m flirting with the idea of the long train journey to Red Bull Leipzig on the Thursday (I know they’re a controversial subject, but in the interest of fair play, I think I should form an opinion based on my own experience)
Anyway, my main question is about Kaiserslautern, as I’m familiar with their history, but clueless about the city itself.
Is it worth 1 or 2 nights, or should I just book a day return from Dusseldorf.
Theres a fair bit of time spent on trains looking at that! I guess we find out on Thursday whether I'll be seeing you at a couple. If we were to get BMGB away on the first matchday there would be a pretty good chance I'd be going to Bochum Koln and Duisburg too, but we'll have to wait and see what UEFA throws at us. Presumably Schalke or Dortmund would be at home on the Thursday too?
1 night in Kaiserslautern is more than enough, unless you're intending to get out of the city to the surrounding areas. I don't think I'm being too harsh if I was to say theres not a lot to see in the city itself. The B&B Hotel, whilst basic is in a really good location for both the stadium & hauptbahnhof.
Allow plenty of time to get to the stadium, firstly to get up the hill, but also to use the big beer hall under the smallest of the four stands (north). We stood in the Westtribune where the Kaiserslautern ultras are but you are allowed to wander through the other stand. Sadly the people I spoke to did not know of Uwe Rösler despite the fact he was there for a year after he left City. They had forgotten that they had seen a God play. Unbelievable!
Its difficult to get behind a team known as the red devils, and I think in the past you've said you travel with an Everton fan, so he might struggle with them singing YNWA. Other than that - you'll have a great time.
@Scaring Europe to Death Get yourself in the Schanzer end, as @Bembeltown will tell you, another person in the ranks will do no harm! ;)
What I don't understand (and I guess you're in the same boat) is that, in theory, City, or Monchengladbach, could be drawn, to play away in Russia, or beyond, on Wednesday Sep 16th
The fact that City (at home to West Ham< 5>30 kick off) and Monchengladbach (away to Koln) have already been scheduled, seems to suggest that UEFA have got certain bases covered
Cheers fella
Yes it's one of those strange things that Mark ( my Everton mate) can't understand). Why does virtually every German team love this song?
Right guys, whats Borussia Park like?
Unfortunately I'm not going over until after the new year now, partly because of the Champions league. As it worked out we could've played 'Gladbach away the week before Schanzer play there on the Saturday! (But we happened to get Sevilla away that week). Anyway, I was planning to go to the home match against Darmstadt but thats off because we play Liverpool at home that weekend.Very basic and in the middle of nowhere. It was 20 minutes on a bus from the hauptbahnhof. The green lights help to give it some individuality, otherwise you would think you were in Middlesbrough or Derby. I still cant believe they fit 54,000 in it.
I didn't get the chance to see a lot of it, but I don't think its a good city to spend a lot of time in either - stay in Köln or Düsseldorf and get the train in and out (free with match ticket).
Me and a few others are going over early, partly to see the Köln v Ingolstadt game on the Friday. You going to that?
