Burning CDs and DVDs

I've got a really annoying problem with burning CDs and DVDs. Recently invested in a custom built PC with all the trimmings. Since Day 1 I have not ben able to burn CDs or DVDs in WMP, Nero and Power2Go. I get an error saying that the burner might not be connected properly. I've had a new DVD-RW drive and fitted that it, updated drivers and this evening I've re-insstalled WIndows Vista in case it was a sofwtare issue.

But still.....no fucking different and I'm ready to turn green, increase my body mass by 500%, rip through my clothes, shout "Don't make me angry..." and throw the whole thing at the wall.

Anyone got any ideas on what more I can do to get this bastid thing burning right?

Did you fit new cables from the back of the writer to the motherboard? check yourself that they have been pushed in far enough.
Does your writer attempt to write and fail, or won't it even start ?
If your using Nero 7, get rid its pants, it can often cause problems with other burning progs too.
