Busquets, Natural Long term replacement for Barry

Fabregas Would be the ideal driving force in Midfield to replace Yaya in 12-18 months time.

I can see this happening

Fabregas maybe with big M, Busquets no chance.. why the hell he would move from his country, sunny city, great club where he is regular and very important player and club that tops world's football average players' wages for another country and rainy Manchester.

£.

Nothing they lack there.. Barcelona average wage is biggest in World's football, I think even in World's sport

Now that Drogba has semi - retired he is the second biggest cheat in World Football behind Donkey Teeth Suarez.

How hard can it be playing the holding role in that Barcelona team?

He's no Barry.

We offered Yaya a bigger wage and we'd offer Busquets a bigger wage as well. I think we have more top 10 earners than they do.

Decent player but a horrible cheating fuck. Stay away City. With the money needed to buy Busquets we could make a massive offer for someone like Vidal.

Decent player but a cheat. Don't really want him. Fabregas, on the other hand, is amazing. I would have him at City any day of the week.

Whatever you think about his antics the guy is utter class, definately the best holding player in the world.

A massively hated player by many due to his tendency to play rather nasty but falls to the ground as soon as someone as much as breathes on him.

But having said that, the man is a football genius, a very very underrated player due to the players surrounding him. He really is essential for Barcelona, he loves the club and will never be put up for sale.

Not a chance this will happen.

Very good summary IMO.

Fuck me I'd love Fabregas here though. I've wanted him here for years.

MANCHESTER CITY have designs on bringing Sergi Busquets to the Etihad in January.

Spain international Busquets has become a mainstay in the Barcelona team since joining the club in 2008 and has enjoyed an illustrious career at the Camp Nou.

But Manchester City’s bulging finances mean that money isn’t a problem for the Barclays Premier League champions.

And with Yaya Toure off to the Africa Cup of Nations in January, City need extra steel in midfield.

Spanish paper AS reports that Man City owner Sheikh Mansour intends to spend big in January and wants to make some marquee signings, although Barca president Sandro Rossell will attempt to block a move for Busquets.

City also need a player of Champions League pedigree and Busquets fits the bill considering he has already tasted success in Europe’s elite competition.

Busquets has already clocked up 22 appearances for Barcelona this season as they look to wrestle the title back from arch-rivals Real Madrid

What are Barry and Garcia for then ?...and Milner does a job in defensive mid.

No doubt he is good, he is however a cretin of the highest order and i wouldn't want to see him in blue tbh.

Anyone find the quotes of the Sheikh on AS's website ? i can't see it of hand.

Up there with the very best and would be a definite upgrade on any of our current options.

Trouble is we are overloaded already, and would have to sell first, and who would take our mega salaried cast offs?

Why do the newspapers print this stuff? At least be realistic and say "bring Busquets to the Etihad in summer", a January deal for a key player of a big team wanting to win the Champions League is going NOWHERE in January.

If this deal could ever happen you don't fook around, you take it. Busquets is better than any of our defensive midfielders by a stretch, including Yaya. Yaya as a defensive midfielder that is, Yaya as an attacking midfielder is a different story. Busquets has a bad reputation for his attitude but you will probably not find a player in his role with more intelligence, technical ability, and passing quality in the world.

Yup but Barca could instead play either Song or Mascherano there and still not be short. The money they'd get would go on a CB which they're in dire need of.

I can't see it myself, but if we do bring in Pep then I could see it in the summer. He's won everything already in his career. A move to a foreign club would offer a fresh challenge. Many people speak his tongue and he has played with a few of our team so it wouldn't be hard to adjust.

Expecting no change out of £30mill.

-- Tue Dec 11, 2012 4:52 pm --

He'd replace Barry who runs out of contract soon. We would have to sell one of Rodwell or Garcia though, goes without saying. I think there'd be more takers for Rodwell than Garcia. Hopefully Garcia proves a good purchase and settles which I think he needs time and patience with. He'd start my FA cup games and lower table opposition. Rodwell just needs time out the injury room and to concentrate on passing, good player is Jack but he has been penalised for hsi few mistakes.

Busquets is such an amazing player. He has the vision of a playmaker, always well positioned defensively, good tackles when needed, awesome at retaining position and some of his simple dribbles are exquisite to watch (I remember Ozil falling against him in Clasico). He's the archetype of the modern 6 and he's the reason Yaya Touré couldn't go on at Barcelona.

At Barcelona, he's the one who allows them to play so high and Xavi/Iniesta to pressure when they lose possesion.

He's the best 6 in the world for me.

However, in the context of premier league and city in particular, he couldn't play as sole midfielder day and day out. Of course, he performed well against PL team but could he sustain the physical pressure over a season?

The only way he could play for us, it is if he has a pure defensive midfielder next to him (Barry) and if he plays as Pirlo-type playmaker who would also give a lot more insurance than Pirlo. That would mean dropping Yaya Touré, which I don't think is called for.

So, wouldn't suit us, a big no.
