Right, I recently moved and my new garden has a small orchard. The trees are laden with apples. I’m going to attempt to make cider and I was wondering, if anybody on here could give me any tips.

Best way to extract the apple juice?

and pretty much everything else involved.

Also feel free to tell me your funniest cider making anecdotes. If that’s even a thing.

Thank you in advance.

And a prize for the best name for my cider. If it works out. Great prize.

Once in a lifetime, life changing even.

We took our apples (and mixed in some pears) to a local presser (Dunham Massey), and had…
100 bottles of juice
100 bottles of 6.8% cider (now more like 12%)

Marvellous- most people have said it’s the best juice they’ve ever had. And the cider is really crisp and dry.
Presumably because of the mixtures of apples.

I’d suggest googling for local pressers

Find out what kind of Apples you have would be a start.
I do, when I say I, I mean my lovely does. One thing I do know is, three are eating and one cooking, I’m doing a mash up, to get a dry and full flavour with a crisp finish and a long nose.

I’m hoping making it is as easy as writing a poncy description of how I want it to taste.

If you search for apple presser and your local area, you’ll often find that there are communities that can either rent you the equipment and tell you how to use it or press your harvest.

I have one of those.
