we won the game but fell one goal short over 2 legs, and i'm confident but for dunnie's insanity the 3rd goal would have come. You're just using an aggregate defeat by the possible winners as an excuse to batter hughes, we have so often wimped out in the past-look at last year in the league cup V spuds-they had 10 men and won in a canter, sheff utd, under pearce against blackburn, doncaster, keegan-oldham. yes hughes lost against forest and brighton( lottery of penalties) but the uefa cup run has meant that our season has just ended in the middle of April-can anyone tell me the last time that happened whilst not going for promotion?

we've settled for medicrority for 30 years, no one is now, we just know that sacking a manager after a year won't help, moyes is backed as a good manager but what has he won? he's reached 2 semi finals in 6 year and a 4th place finish 4 years ago. Isn't there only 6 managers in the premiership that have won english trophies as managers? only redknapp and o'neil from outside the top 4? so when you say what's Hughes won? respect and admiration for his previous work just as O'neil, twitcher and Moyes has.

So when you get what you want and they sack hughes, the new manager comes in and doesn't like the look of Ned, Zab, Vinny and SWP and Superman-then will you like it? Mourinho would win stuff-but we'd have to but to suffer the dull football to justify it( which i would) but i'd like to see us win stuff like arsenal or the scum win it.

some of the people on here seem to hate hughes more than they love the team.

I'm sick and tired of seeing my team lose in the quarter final, but last night was easier to take then the ones under sven, pearce, and all the rest cos they showed pride.

proud and gutted to be blue.

just luck and the linesmen wasnt on our side.

It was kinda comical you had one linesmen who give f*** all, all day and the one who looked like he body popping he had his flag up that much

I've always been proud to be a city fan, nothings changed now

Well I dont want to get involved in the Hughes in/out debate but I agree with the title of your post. I thought everybody involved with Manchester City Football Club pulled together last night and whilst I am hurting like hell at the minute I am so proud of everyone who played their part.
Our day WILL come.

Redmond Good post mate, i am still struggling to come to terms with it this morning, but the love and passion for my team will never die.

We just needed a bit of luck last night that Chelsea, Liverpool, would have got, we have to be supportive of what is going on.

But last night the passion that was shown on the pitch and off it was fantastic, the development will carry on and we will get there

Funny i've woken up feeling the new era has finally dawned

that's the most together we've been in ages
fantastic performance from our fringe players and our stars

Also proud and gutted to be a blue mate, but;

Mark Hughes is not battered on this site for an 'aggregate defeat'. Its for a season of mis-management and tactical ineptness resulting in thsi season which Hughes himself promised so much turning into another non-event............. but after spending £130m.

You say we wimped out in the past cup competions naming Sheff Utd, Doncaster and Oldham but in the same breath you say that the Forest and Brighton defeats were acceptable cus they went to the lottery of penalties? Wrong, they were all shocking and unnactable defeats but having two of them this season shows that in national cup competions we have shown 100% regression!

I believe you are right in that only 6 PL managers have won english trophies but then that does indeed dhow why David Moyes 2 semi's in 6 years and a 4th place finish has some merit. He has done this on very little money. Hughes 'previous work' shows no such success level.

'Mourinho would win stuff'. Not my choice of manager but you could almost guarantee you are right there.

Its not about hating Hughes, he has some very decent qualities and seems an all round decent bloke, and personally i couldnt give a flyin f*ck as to where he played his football. But imo he just hasnt got what it needs to take City to the levels i would hope ADUG are expecting with the amount of cash injection they are showing.

Abroad, so only viewed on a stream last night, but last night reminded me of the kind of night City sometimes used to have in the mid and late seventies, when I first started going, and which I thought many times in the intervening period I may never see again. That's City, at a packed home ground with a fantastic atmosphere, winning a competitive match against a top team from one of the big European league, playing football with both skill and courage.

OK, it wasn't enough to win the tie overall, and over the two games I think Hamburg deserved it, but it certainly whets the appetite. And the involvement of ADUG gives us hope that, even if we don't qualify next season, there'll be more of the same in the year to come.

I was a bit gutted last night, but am excited by what I saw now.

Excellent post mate, like someone else on the thread stated, not getting into Hughes in/out debate, I will love this club until I expire, I have seen much worse than home defeats to Fulham, limp faliures at Portsmouth, Right now there is a genuine feeling around everyone that whilst its not gonna be this season our club is going places, it would be nice if we could just pull together and strive to reach that common goal, and cast aside all this negativity.
