"Captain Tom" charity | Watchdog to review accounts

To be honest, I think charity law needs a complete and total rewrite for 2023, not 1723.

Do you know certain favoured 'charities' (Eton is one) are not even answerable to the Charity Commissioners? How can that possibly be defended?

In my view, tax relief should only be available for tangible services to people and animals. Not, for example, for lobbying governments or spreading propaganda, which is more or less all certain 'charities' do. The so-called Taxpayers Alliance, for example. (It should be called the Tax Dodgers Alliance.)

That's already the law, the Tax payer's alliance aren't a charity.

Charities are able to lobby providing that it isn't their primary purpose., e.g., Greenpeace aren't a charity, but RSPCA or RSPB are.

This charity must have fallen on its head.

"The Charity Commission said his daughter and son-in-law displayed a "pattern of behaviour" in which they benefitted personally from the Captain Tom Foundation and people "would understandably feel misled".

The optics not great here and such a shame as so much good was done at time.....my concern is that other charities will be impacted if people lose trust in them...need clarity on where the money goes.....also, from what I have seen of the daughter and husband they dont really need more any more ferking money! Greed.
