Now I have a Ford Focus which I was told were the most reliable cars around, anyway everytime I go to the garage for something which I think is minor it always seems to cost a good few hundred quid/

Would people recommend a certain garage or is it best to go to the Ford one? As I know nothing about cars it is hard for me to ever question what is wrong.

You can take it to any garage. Ford parts are usually cheap and available from other manufacturers rather than just through Ford (I think where I used to work we used to source spurious parts for most cars from Andrew Page and Part-Co. So if you can get the parts cheap, then the garage must be charging you for authentic parts and at a hefty charge for labour.

Not sure how Ford work out their prices as I was working for Peugeot, but if they are similar methods of working then a mechanic refers to a book that tells them how long a job should take. So if the book states it takes 4 hours to do a job, the mechanic would put down 4 hours worked, even if it took them 2 hours.

Use a local garage that is recommended by others. Only go to a main dealer when you need some really good drugs.

I am around Stockport but would really go anywhere that has a good reputation.

Thanks for the tip Joycee.
