I know it'a over still I cling, I don't know where
Why are people sticking up for Carol Thatcher?
She made racist remark about a tennis player looking like a "gollywog", not in a private conversation as reported in some papers.
The comment was made in front of a dozen people, she's had plenty of time to apologise for causing offence. She has chosen not to.
I blame the parents.

Rory McGrath made a remark about Gary Lineker having big ears on They Think It's All Over, which was broadcast to millions of people a few years ago. Other big-eared people were bound to be watching.
He's had years to apologise, but has chosen not to.

Big Brother's Coolio used the n-word on the show in front of his other housemates, a word former contestant Emily was KICKED OUT for using. He's had plenty of time to apologise. He has chosen not to.

Big Brother's Darnell used the n-word on the show in front of his other housemates, a word former contestant Emily was KICKED OUT for using. He's had plenty of time to apologise. He has chosen not to.

Millions of people called Sarah Palin a 'red-neck', but not all of them have chosen to apologise.

Frankie Boyle made a joke about the French on Mock the Week, and has chosen not to apologise.

Al Murray made a joke about the Germans on The Pub Landlord, and has chosen not to apologise.

Ricky Gervais featured jokes about a Golliwog on his TV show 'Extras', as well as a joke about Crimewatch featuring a disproportionate amount of black actors.

Give it a rest you fucking twat.

...And I am choosing not to apologise for that.

I don't like Carol Thatcher, but I'll stick up for her here.

You said it was "not in a private conversation" because "the comment was made in front of a dozen people". That's still a private conversation. A private conversation can be between two people or several people. The fact is that she wasn't on air, she wasn't broadcasting to anyone via the radio, tv, on a stage or anything. She was talking amongst a handful of people, in a room. That's a private conversation.

I don't agree with what she said, but it was in private.

Now, I don't agree with the fact that someone in that room heard what she said and decided to tell on her like some young school kid. We don't know the context of the remark, what was said before, what was said after, the facial expressions etc. But it was a room full of adults, she said something which some people found offensive, she said it. Right. Move on. Don't behave like children "Miss miss, did you hear what she just said?"

If it was a minute of two of non-stop racial abuse then yes, that should have been reported.

We are becoming a country full of grasses, too sensitive to live in the real world, it's all PC, everyone's scared to say anything, to do anything slightly risky. It wasn't right what she said, but just leave it. No need for a witch hunt.

i m switching my phone off in case i get one of those asian jokes sent to me by text, some people will want me locking up for having the misfortune of being a recipient
