Aguero, Dzeko, Guidetti seems good. But I think we can only go with three strikers if we plan on playing one up top. If it is two up top, we run the risk of players tiring out, injuries. Also, my other worry is what if Dzeko, Aguero don't rediscover their good form and/or Guietti can't cut it in PL? Then we have a little problem.

Agree on the 3 strikers ... will certainly not be 4

Aguero - I am sure stays
Dzeko - could potentially stay depending wholly on Pellegrini
Guidetti - no way do I see him as a 3rd...

Txiki and Ferran will want to make statements and Pellegrini will have targets... i.e. Win the Premier League again, win another domestic cup and get to the knockout stage of the UCL.

If Aguero got injured, do you think we could mount a formidable attack on Juve, Chelsea, Barca, Real etc with (no disrespect to the lad) Guidetti and Dzeko alone?!

I am sure Txiki and Ferran will already want to bring in 1 TOP CLASS striker the summer because it is clear we have not been clinical all season long and even with Isco, Fernandinho (if/when they sign) we still won't be overtaking the likes of RVP ... That's why I hope it is Cavani but he may prove to be unreachable with Chelski once again breathing down our necks ready to grab a target we have worked on by flashing the whole "we have London" shit.

Napoli last league match 19 May.

Once above done lets hope Cavani transfer gets sorted quickly and that he chooses us. We need a top quality finisher and he fits the bill.

If we go into next season with Aguero as the best finisher at the club we will not win the league. We did a few years ago on goal difference, but then United went and added an even better goal scorer. Chelsea will sign a world class finisher this season as Mourinho has always had 1 in his teams. Aguero is great but is sadly not clinical in the slightest.

Just get this bad vibe that Cavani will be heading else where... or even possibly staying another season

I just have a feeling we wont buy a striker.

I think we will go into the season with Agüero, Dzeko and Guidetti, and I think Txiki knows it is next to impossible to be able to manage 3-4 top class strikers and rotate them equally.

Pellegrini won't want that issue for sure.

If anything I think our buys will be to get the best out of the strike force we currently have, that's what I'm leaning towards now.

To be honest I would rather we have 2-3 top strikers getting regular playing time and keeping their for up rather than having 4 with one or two moaning here and there.

Guidetti is totally unproven and if either Dzeko or Aguero got injured for any period of time we would be completely snookered. If it is the case that we go into next season with the same strikers ie Aguero,Dzeko,Tevez or Aguero,Dzeko,Guidetti we can forget winning the title or making inroads in the champs league. We desperately need more firepower up front to improve next season.

Yup, we can't rest our hopes on Aguero becoming more clinical. Even if Cavani falls through we should go for a striker with a good conversion rate even if we look at lower profile targets like Soldado and Yilmaz (both could suit City I think).

I know a few are saying going into the new season with 3 strikers and what happens with their form.

See I think one of the big reasons why our strikers struggled with long sustained periods of form was the fact each striker had to deal with the possibility of being replaced for the next game by a striker who missed out on the previous game. Injuries played a part as well, but you pay a price when you have 3-4 top strikers hungry to prove their worth.

Plus, doesn't Pellegrini thrive off having smaller squads?

I think we will do a Chelsea next year, pack the midfield out and okay with one up top, the only difference with us having 3 top strikers who can come in and do the damage.

Agüero on his day will fetch us 30-40 a season in my opinion, he just needs to have the team built around him.

Not sure about Soldado and haven't seen much of Yilmaz but Jackson Martínez is not that dissimilar to Cavani so would be my choice. Would cost more than the other two obviously but probably £20m less than Cavani would.

I was against spending loads on a striker but have come round to the idea in the past couple of months.

Yes, Jackson Martinez for me would be a fine alternative to Cavani for me. Weird situation we are in though. It seems to be 3 strikers if we go 1 up front and 4 if we go 2 upfront. However, 3 feels like a risk while 4 would cause unrest for someone. Perhaps 4 is good but we need someone who is willing to play a squad role.

I agree. I think it rests on both Dzeko and Tevez going in which case we sign a Jackson/Cavani and then as you say, someone who is willing to play that role.

As I would like to see Falcao at City, this is more of a messy transfer than Cavani's. And looking at the main headline, di Canio has got his work cut out in the summer.

pinch of salt ... no wait take a fooking table spoon of salt with this.

As much as I would love him here ... I struggle to see Txiki and Ferran activate his release clause because of his 3rd party malarkey.

On the other hand, Ferran and Txiki DO WANT to make a marquee signing and as far as I know, Nike have been promised this marquee by city too. Would make sense or would Isco be our marquee ?

-- Sat May 18, 2013 8:27 pm --

If it makes a few papers then it might have some credibility.

True... does anyone know if Sunday People's success rate with stories ?

Wengers classic hypocrisy - Europa league rewards failure. unlike finishing fourth without a trophy for eight years but still playing in the champions league.
