So really struggling financially at the minute..

I am in the 4th year of a 4 year training scheme and at the minute I am being paid by my employers on a wage equivalent to the cleaners..

In about 6months my wage will go up by a long way so things should become easier, however over the past year or so I have been struggling a lot, half supporting my dad and now supporting my girlfriend its been hard.

So anyways council tax kinda took a back seat and I owe them £500. I have now just been given a summons to appear in court unless i pay the amount within the next 3 weeks (I have minus £200 in my account and bills not being paid this month so that is impossible), they have also added a 65 quid charge for this letter apparently.

I may dispute the charge but I wanted to know, now that I have been summonsed to court does that mean I have a CCJ on my credit file?

not until you go through court. There is no CCJ until the judgement bit!

not until you go through court.

so is there a way for them to say, set me up with a repayment plan and avoid getting a CCJ or am I now doomed to a CCJ because there is no way I can afford to pay the money off at the minute.

Not yet> CCJ stands for county court judgement, so as there is no judgement until you go to court it might be wise to find a way to avoid doing so, Ie see if you can come to an agreement beforehand.

Speak to the council and ask them to consider a payment plan.

Pay it if you can mate. I had one when I was younger & I couldn't get credit for years.

It will always be a last resort for the council to go court,so the time is now to arrange yourself a managable payment plan. What ever you do dont try to overstretch your budget as this could lead to you mismanaging your finances.
Write your ingoings and outgoings down first, then get a figure you know you are comfortable with before you make any arrangements with the council or any other creditors.Hope this helps and good luck.

hi m8 speak to council explain situation they will agree payment plan with you if you stick to agreement your case wont go to court and you will not get any ccjs if it does go to court you will get more charges baillifs etc good luck

Google motley fool and go on their discussion boards, I know a few people that have got some great advice from the people on there.

^^THIS
As long as the amount you offer to repay is sensible (not £5 per month for example) the Local Authority is likely to agree to it

Avoid that CCJ at all costs.I had one years ago without even knowing about it.A Girlfriend of mine was using catologue in my name without me even knowing about it.

I was in the house of frazer buying some clothes once, the woman on the counter give it the usual, would you like a store card sir?it will save you 10% on your items today. So i finish filling out the form, she goes to ring it in, and then returns to say it's been declined. To be honest i thought nothing about it,then it hppened again, and i told my girlfriend, she owned up to what had happened, and i hit the fucking roof.

Nobody will touch you finance wise, and it will last for six years!
