Celtic game - strict security measures announced (page 34)

I've had folk tell me my name is quintessentially English. It isn't. My forename is Hebrew and my surname is Welsh. Not many know I am Welsh originally but, before talking for the first time, I've had English people approach me for a chat purely because my Wales shirt interested them.

Welsh nationalism does exist. I know Welsh people who switch from speaking English to their mother tongue when outsiders are around purely so they can't understand what is being said.

Hebrew Welsh? That's a great name!

I holidayed in Wales this year, from Tenby to Conway and stops in between and it was great. Nobody spoke Welsh to piss me off and everyone was really friendly. Anyone who hates the Irish should go to Ireland for a few days. You'll never be more welcomed. Years ago I went to Dublin for a weekend and got a map out and within seconds two separate people came up to ask if we knew where we were going. I was in Galway and Connemara this year and the warmth of people in pubs and just out and about was genuine and sincere.

Hating one group of people in just unacceptable (apart from rags obviously). :)

I know students or professionals in Manchester who only made friends with outsiders because locals don't want to know them.

I had the same experience in London. It's tribal wherever you go but have personally found Welsh football fans to be top notch. England behaved like ****s in France.

Yes it was outrageous those women and kids being attacked by Russian parliamilitaries

My first name is James. Hebrew. Mum's a Christian when it suits her.

Celtic will more than likely cause mither in town next month. I drank with a Celtic fan for years and, despite being as liberal as you can be, was quite damning about a significant number of their fans. More so than I could ever be about City.

Met two great Scottish couples on holiday in Malaga in January. They were really friendly and took a great interest in me.

Not much of a comeback. You know full well we were targeted in Seville. What did many of us do? Get in taxis and go back to the hotel. Thankfully the small tapas bar where you and I became acquainted for the first time was more welcoming. It ruined my trip.

Yes no place for that violence. We did get a great result though and I think that paved the way IMHO for us beating Barca the other night. These are great times for all Blues, including Welsh Blues!

I hope all Blues really get behind the team against Celtic. It should be a great night. The game would have sold out by now if Cup Scheme members would have been able to get four tickets from the start. i understand the Club trying to give Cityzens members a fairer shout though.

Celtic will give their lads great support and I'm hoping we will do likewise.

Cheers Tim

They've not opened up two and half blocks in the South Stand 3rd tier yet (the biggest blocks in the stadium) but I'm sure they will as the two blocks already opened up there are half sold with almost 3 weeks of sales to go.

There's quite a few left in the family stand and in the corner of the family stand and east stand. Aside from that it's mostly single seats in all other areas.

my grandad is welsh from pontypridd and I've got other family from the rhonda. from my experience welsh people dont hate enlgish people at all. they are some of the most welcoming people. there is welsh nationalism buts that can be applied to england swell.

It's nothing that I've come that would suggest it would come to violence but their dislike of the English is certainly strong than our dislike of the Welsh.

The Scottish and Irish even more so.

Quit tarring a whole nation with the one brush, it's childish nonsense.

Its quite clearly a general statement for fuck sake. I've very good friends who I have banter with from Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

I know not everyone hates the English from those three nations, it's a generalism that they dislike us more than we dislike each of them.

Stop getting so offended and grow up.

There's very little hate at all, take some of your own advice

I lived in Scotland (Glasgow & Edinburgh) for nearly 30 years with an English partner and also have some relatives born in England. You are always going to get idiots, but the VAST majority of Scots have absolutely no issue with the English. None of us ever got any hassle, even when travelling to the Highlands, or some rougher parts of the country. Got more hassle in France!

Anyway, I'm looking forward to this game.

There's been latent racism towards the Welsh for years. I've experienced it myself and recall some of the comments made at Mark Hughes and his team. Heard nothing about Stuart Pearce being from London or Joe Royle being a Scouser in comparison.

Picking on Wales for just being Wales has happened for years.

It's not racism. They're exactly the same race as us.

We'll have to agree to disagree that I think it's more from them to us than the other way around.

English people put down the Welsh but I think the Welsh dislike us more.

Did you see Wales celebrate England getting knocked out of the Euros Jim. I've heard Welsh RU fans giving us English dogs abuse after a game, even though you lot were playing Ireland lol. It's no big deal.

Lot's of shit on here, and I can't be done with the 'I don't like the Welsh, French or double bloody dutch' for all I care.

You take people as you find them.

I've been all over the world, and peeps are universally friendly and welcoming, as I am when I meet visitors to our city.

Some keyboard warriors ought to get out more and experience the real world we live in.

Jeez, a country with how many million people living in it, and they don't like a single, solitary person living there?

Do me a favour.

Totally agree mate. It's usually the closested Lancastrian Brexiteers who don't know any foreigners who hate them the most, because they don't know any.

Or those whose grandad was in the forces so it makes them feel important and they can just casually insult whole countries or races because they think it's their birth-right.

Racism, xenophobia, predjuice against any country is borne of ignorance and misinformation. It doesn't stand up to intellectual scrutiny. It's just ignorance fuelled by a closeted upbringing.

I've lived and worked in England for 36 years and I cheered as loud as anyone when Iceland knocked England out. It doesn't mean I hate English people, far from it. England are Scotland's closest and oldest rivals and nobody wants to see their closest ( sporting ) rival do well. I hate the man united but I don't hate any individual just because they are rags.

I've lived in Scotland for 28 years went through school up here. Trust me there is hate for England in Scotland it's passed down from parent to child that the English are the worst people in the world.
