Centre back options

He's better than Jonny bloody Evans anyway! Think you're being harsh on him. He was a key part of the atletico Madrid team that broke all defensive records and part of a team doing very well in Seria a this season.
He's in Serie A for a reason, he relied on pace and he's now nearly 34 and has none.

Didn't realise he was that old... Well I take that all back. But I can see Pep interested in Bonucci again. Harry Maguire would be a good long term signing, he has all that is needed to play in a pep team.

think we'll go for 2 CB's before the start of next season so am ok with Evans for the rest of the year and a bigger investment in the summer.

I'd be hesitant to bring Inigo from the Basque Country in the middle of the winter.

I’d rather have Evans than rely on mangala to be our third choice centre back. We should be looking at better options than JFE though, harry maguire would be a class signing. Leicester could be tempted by a £50m bid.

I seen a earlier post by someone mentioning that Pep was all over Maguire after the Leicester game, in what way (who knows). Could've been one of his "Come to City we can do great things" Or "Stop defending like a dick, sitting 10 behind the ball" :D

Or berating him for a ****house tackle on Phil.

Or all three.

I think Pep could work with Maguire and he likes having plenty of native players in his teams BUT... he's also quite rightly said they are fucking expensive and Leicester will probably put a hefty price tag on him even if it was a summer signing. If we can get him in Jan for a decent price great but as others have said perhaps he does lack a bit of pace, I personally think some exaggerate with it he seems about Otamendi's speed which is a good point would he even end up better than Ota even after Pep has had time to work with him? I'm not so sure he even has Ota's goal saving last ditch challenges that got him noticed to begin with and Ota's passing game has come on leaps and bounds under Pep he's been fantastic for our buildups from the back.

I wouldn't grumble if we got Maguire but I think VVD offers athleticism, height and strength along with being suited to our technical passing side of the game... we are probably going to have to spend big either way so we might as well just be patient and hope this season has whet his appetite more than whatever Liverpool promised him last summer.

Might want to check the VVD thread mate, gone to the Dippers for £75m.

I was just literally reading that now haha... fuck that's a lot of money isn't it? We'd have been slaughtered in the press for paying that, lets see how they react to Liverpool breaking records for defenders hey?

Spending the Coutinho fee early I'd say.
I know Liverpool wanted him as long as we have but I wonder if clubs will start to going big after our targets more often now to simply stop us pulling away from them? I doubt they would be paying that if they weren't so scared we'd get him.
