With Kompany, Mangala, Demichelis and Denyer looking like they will be our centre backs this year who would your prefered pairing... With it looking like Demichelis' last season would you pick him for his reliablitly or would you prefer to see Denyer or Mangala cement a starting place?

I really don't know the answer to that.

Kompany is out of form, Mangala still has a lot to prove, Denayer has yet to play a game in the premiership so while he looks promising, there is still some uncertainty as to how he'll cope. MD is probably our most reliable defender but I'm not sure he's got a full season left in him.

On paper it looks like 4 good to very good centre backs but I don't feel especially confident about any of them.

Kompany/Mangala or Kompany/Denayer for me, or if Kompany plays like he did last season MDM takes his place. Wouldn't want Mangala/Denayer just yet.

Honestly though I think Kompany and Mangala will turn it around this year and be much better. Denayer looks a fantastic talent but I think we have to give the starting berth to Mangala. MDM is Mr Reliable but I think he'll be used sparingly this season, barring injuries to the other three.

All our centre halves would be better if our full backs were as reliable as Zabaletta has been. All too often they are pulled out of position and retreat too deep to compensate/cover for the likes of Sagna, Koralov and even Cliché

Clichy causes the most problems out of the lot. You're right though, we need defensively solid left back who's as good if not better than Kolorov and Clichy going forward, and someone to replace Sagna wouldn't go amiss.

Its a tough call. I would love to see Kompany/Mangala work but I've seen no evidence whatsoever that they can work in tandem. I just think Vinny needs some no nonsense centre half to partner him which we haven't really got since Lescott left. MD and Mangala look uncomfortable with Vince so that leaves Denayer which is a huge risk. Our attacking intent doesn't help them and our problematic left-back position needs addressing as soon as possible. Pellers wont change his ways as regards to chopping and changing and utilising the whole squad but I've always believed in a stable back 4 and keeper or at least keeping the centre half pairing and keeper.

If I had to pick at this present moment. I would have a back line of Hart, Zabba, and Komps and take a risk in giving Denayer his chance, I would also pick Clichy over Kolarov just for his defensive duties. Tough games away I would play the back 4 as stated and use Delph and Fernandinho as protection and Toure in a more advanced role with Sterling playing slightly left with Silva having a free role trying to find the pockets of space and leave Sergio alone up top. De Bruyne coming in would give us another dimension altogether and we could forfeit Delph or Fernandinho for him and play Toure a little deeper. Should be interesting how much game time Bony, Nasri, Navas and Fernando get not to mention players not mentioned.

Our 2 most consistant defenders for years had shockers last season in Kompany and Zabba talk about a point to prove for both. Think Kompany and Mangala will start the season as the pairing, Just cant see Kompany being dropped think we will be a lot better this season in compared to last season. Players with a point to prove its make or break for 3 of them if not more.
