Cerci ?

Really should have signed him instead of Sinclair, think he said he was on the plane heading to Manchester when he was told we pulled out of the deal and Marwood wanted Sinclair instead.

Really? Again? I always assumed he was just part of a Mancini Italian fetish.

The Italian winger is the latest name to be linked with a move to the Etihad Stadium, but what would he add to the Blues' squad?

A new day, a new transfer target alleged to be on the radar of Manchester City.

It truly is silly season.

But Blues cannot help but to have taken note of the latest unfamiliar name doing the rounds: Alessio Cerci.

Despite being 26, Cerci is not a well-known star, and he is currently contracted to the Serie A outfit Torino.

But both of those things could change after the World Cup, as he bids to play a starring role for Italy.

The player himself would perhaps have not expected this two years ago when, after a difficult spell with Fiorentina, he was shipped out to Turin.

Having finally found a proper home, however, Cerci has flourished.

His first season with Torino yielded eight goals and 12 assists in 35 Serie A appearances - his best ever tally.

That resulted in a maiden Italy call-up in March of 2013, and he went on to claim a place in the squad for the FIFA Confederations Cup.

The experience clearly benefited Cerci, who has gone from strength to strength in 2013-14, alerting a number of top clubs in the process.

His 13 goals and 12 assists in the Italian top-flight marked him out as one of the star performers last season, clinching his place in Cesare Prandelli's World Cup squad.

And Torino, who are surely resigned to losing such a talent, will hope that he can impress on the biggest stage to at least push the price up.

City's alleged interest is surprising given that they are well stocked in the forward areas.

But should they wish to shake things up due to concerns over Alvaro Negredo's late-season form or interest in Yaya Toure, then Cerci would be a good option.

The Italian offers goals, creativity and pace and he wouldn't come with a huge price tag - who wouldn't want him?

Can play both wings and attacking midfielder. He's a player who could do very well with us, but he would have to be content being an off the bench player if he wanted success here. Whenever I've watched him he's been quite good.

If we really are going for an additional attacking option, I'd prefer Barkley.
