Champions League 2020/21

Surely even with this trimmed season there will be sufficient free midweeks to fit a small number of league cup games in?

Look like 2 free gaps in November are an international break, and with everything starting late, not likely before late Sept in lower leagues, there is no chance of getting in 4 rounds before the CL, with the 10th Oct also being an international weekend.

Even without internationals it is near impossible, unless they play the following round in subsequent weeks or start the comp as a preseason thing like used to happen to an extent in Scotland.

And of course after the CL the FA cup starts, could they start both tournaments scrapping replays? Doesn’t seem likely.

It still happens in Scotland, or rather would have but for COVID-19.

I do not see how the EFL matches can possibly complete a full 46-match League season and fit in League Cup ties. In Scotland the Championship have cut 9 matches from the League season to give 27 matches. I can see the lower divisions being cut to 18-matches. The Scottish Premiership starts on 1st August but no indication for when the seasons will commence. Nothing whatsoever about start dates for England.

All this with the Champions League and the Europa starting in early August, before the season's competitions are anywhere near completed. It's going to take some sorting out.

What's the betting if we can't enter the league cup well get a ban from every other competition as a result

If we do win the Champions League this season, Does the 5th spot in the Premier League get you into the Champions League, Or is that scrapped?
That would only apply if City finished outside of the top-four and won the CL. That was the case with Chelsea a few years back.

If United finish fifth and win the Europa that would give a fifth place to England in the CL.

Right, first attempt at predicting the group stages. A lot of assumptions made, but the one that affects us - we'll be in Pot 2 unless we win the 19/20 Champions League, in which case we move into Pot 1.

The teams in black have all qualified already, so its not going to change too drastically.

Pot 1
Real Madrid
Bayern
Juventus
PSG
Liverpool
Zenit
CL Winner
EL Winner

Pot 2
Atletico Madrid
Barcelona
Man City
Man United
Sevilla
Dortmund
Chelsea
Shakhtar

Pot 3
Porto
Benfica*
Ajax**
Dynamo Kyiv*
RB Salzburg**
RB Leipzig
Olympiacos**
Lazio

Pot 4
Celtic**
Lokomotiv Moscow
Atalanta
Inter
Marseille
Club Brugge
Borussia Mönchengladbach
Istanbul Basaksehir

Draw for the group stage is on the 1st October. Once the 19/20 competition has finished, I'll do another update.

* denotes needing to qualify through "the league route" (i.e did not win their domestic league). There are two teams who will qualify.
** denotes needing to qualify through "the champions route" (i.e they won their domestic league). There are four teams who will qualify.
