Champions League Games 7/8 August

Lampard sure does struggle in the big games. Except against us but we are an easy opposition in terms of tactics - park the bus, hit on the counter and we will self destruct.

Maybe it is unfair since this is an excellent Bayern side but you just get the feeling in big important ties he doesn't manage to keep the game close, too often things just go REALLY bad. Mourinho for all his faults is excellent at this, bring the opposition down to your level.

Still learning as a coach. I think he's going to be one of the worlds best in a few years.

He will learn, Pep himself keeping the score close against Madrid.

Messi made Koulibaly look crap. But Messi can do that against any player. And let's not forget that Jesus made Varane look like an idiot last night and Varane is one of the best defenders in the world.

I hope this Covid format Champions League becomes something like the norm.

If UEFA want to reinvigorate the CL, turning the QF-SF-F into a post-league season/summer knockout event, with games pretty much every night would do it.

Obviously they and the clubs want 2 legged games for the ££££ from broadcasting and gate receipts but I'm sure they could make up for it by virtue of marketing around the the event

Clearly one drawback with straight knockout is one set of fans wouldn't get a home game, and it's conceivable you could go to the final only playing away games - unless you could work it so an away draw in the QF = a home draw in the SF.
You could feasibly do it over 2 legs if each team plays every 3/4 days.
