Just wondering I know it dont matter this year but, Rember back in 2005 when Liverpool won the Champions League and then following season they finished 5th and Everton got 4th Liverpool, they were allowed back in as they were holders. As any new ruling come in to say if a team finished outside the qualifaction places then the lowest qualified place would be taken away and giving to the holders? say city finished 4th and liverpool were holders would we miss out ??

true, but we needn't worry about it

yes they changed the rules after the 5 team entry from England.

If its from a league without 4 teams then I believe an extra place is opened up for the holders should they not qualify as of right through league position.

If however they finshed 8th and win the europha then we would get an extra place in that.

Under the new rules, yes we would. It used to be that the winners would take the place of the lowest placed team from that country (who would go into the UEFA Cup) but they changed it for the dippers. After that, UEFA made it clear that the old system would apply.

Cheers mate

from the uefa rules

If the titleholder comes from an association entitled to four places in the
UEFA Champions League and does not qualify for the UEFA Champions
League or UEFA Europa League through its domestic competitions, the
lowest-ranked club of the association’s UEFA Champions League
representatives is automatically transferred to the UEFA Europa League
(into the latest possible round where there is a vacancy). In this case, the
national association of the titleholder is entitled to one additional place in
the UEFA Europa League.
