Champions League Squad - Jovetic Out (Updated Page 36)

Re: Champions League Squad

I'd play the long game and leave Bony out mainly for club morale.

Firstly, it shows faith in the existing squad who took us this far, secondly to avoid having a disgruntled player(and his mates) possibly breeding dissension in the run in and thirdly, because Bony wouldn't necessarily be expecting to play this season.

We spend 28m on a player who is capable of providing the extra ammunition to prolong our involvement in the competition and you want to leave him out.....??

So,getting serious again.....Kolarov - get him out.

Re: Champions League Squad

Jovetic, 100%. Not even a question in my mind and I'll amazed if it's not him.

The least reliable in terms of fitness and the least likely to be needed in terms of squad balance.

It will no doubt signal his end at the club but his contributions since he arrived have not been up to scratch and he needs to move on.

Re: Champions League Squad

Jovetic has been fit most of this season and hasn’t contributed anymore than when he was injured 90% of last season

It will 100% be him

Kolarov will be needed to cover left mid, Milner would usually but Yaya is suspended so may be needed for CM

Edin has proved time and again he scores big goals in big games, especially away from home

I'd say he's a more consistent performer than Dzeko (has Dzeko even been fit more than him this season?). He is one of only three players who can play the creative midfield role to a high standard, and you can easily fit all three into the starting line up so there's not exactly a shortage of demand for that type of player in our system.

What Dzeko gave us that was unique is now covered by Bony, only Bony does it in a superior way. Jovetic can even play the burly centre forward role if needs must, so if it's a question of who is the most expendable player...

And why should 'Bony-out' not be a serious option? Maybe not one that is much expected, but not serious?
- Not trained a minute with the squad so far
- Needs to get used to his new surroundings of the pitch
- Need to get used to new players around him
- We don't know how good he will be in our team compared to the players who are here already
- No Champions League experience !!

It's normal to expect someone new will be better than what we have. But in my 35+ years of supporting this club I have seen numerous new signings fail whenever they put on the blue shirt.

I can easily support the descision to drop Bony to make it easier for the player to settle in the team (already a huge step foreward) and be ready to play Chimps League football next term that is 'just' 7 months away.

Re: Champions League Squad

Not sure why is Dzeko even discussed, he scored many important goals for City and will do so in future, the one to count on in the big games. And I feel he will be important in the run in for the title. Bony still hasn't had a single training with the team, and Jovetic is well Jovetic he may look like a great asset but he really doesn't produce much. Kolarov has been awful this season and Clichy is certain to play plus there are number of players who can cover at left back. With all this said, I'd leave Bony out, not sure why everyone is certain he will be in the squad, I agree he could prove to be an asset but he could also need time to adapt to the team and we only have 2 guaranteed games in CL so why risk it.

I agree.....Jovetic hasn't played much in the CL this season but when he has, he's had an impact (set up Zab for the Roma goal) and seems to be a lot more active/higher work rate.....I think people are looking at last season and think Dzeko should be given a place because of what he's done past season and that's letting emotions come into the selection.....Dzeko has had a VERY poor season by anyones standards and if City select him over Bony(as an example) it would just show that no matter how poorly you play, your place is safe and that is the wrong message to give....As mentioned, with the Bony signing......keeping Jovetic in over Dzeko would make more sense due to him being able to play a number of positions.....but Pelle has played Dzeko ahead of Jovetic in a few games this season.....so I really don't know what his call will be......
