Dzeko is having one of those seasons.
World Cup , little if no preseason , troublesome calf injury.

I will not give up faith in him.

No Edin = no champions 2014

It would not surprise me in the least if he is our top goal scorer between now and May.

and if he isn't.....and doesn't improve....are we ready to move on and find a replacement? How long do we give him to find his old form?

To be fair to him, he has had really bad luck injury wise this year and once again has hardly started.

I think we have already found a replacement and Dzeko will probably be sold in the summer.

I think Pellegrini appreciates that he played a major part in our title win last year and has rewarded him. Jovetic played little part and hasn't done enough this season either.

Correct my friend.

I like Jovetic as a player but he doesn't fit our system of play.

In Italy he had more time to do his tricks not so much in the PL or CL

Not convinced Pellegrini sees Hart as his long term number 1 and trusts Willy

As already been said can see us playing 1 up front and I don't see Jovetic as a CF more an AM

I'm not Edin's biggest fan, his work rate and first touch do my nut in. However when the balls in the box he comes alive, without his goals we wouldn't be 2 x Champions.

Not sure what Jovetic has done to deserve so much soul searching. He wouldn't start and apart from a Cameo against Chelsea in the FA Cup has not really impressed.

Injuries have hampered Jovetic progress and we haven't got to see what he is fully capable. and more than likely he will be gone in the summer. With him getting injured at the same time as our other two strikers must of been the final straw, It will be a test of Manuel Pellegrini's man management skills to keep him motivated and get a good performances for the Premier League games.

Dzeko wasn't cut because he has a solid injury record. He's been mostly available since he joined.

If we had cut Dzeko instead of Jovetic, would anyone be very confident that Jovetic would be available for Barca? I wouldn't and I doubt Pellegrini would either.

Feel for him, injuries have played a major part in his career to date but he's got all the ability in the world. If he does move on then somebody is going to get a superb player for next to fuck all as our bargaining position will be hit with his omission.
The problem is I've racked my brain trying to figure out who would have been the better option to drop and its a real tough one. Kolorov, maybe Dzeko at a push but realistically when everybody's available Jovetic is probably the one player who we can leave out without too much headache.
Hope he can motivate himself for the run in as he's still a great option to have on the bench for those games where we need a more direct approach.

What will hurt Jovetic the most is that he contributed hugely to those two goals that helped us beat Bayern. He should have been rewarded for that atleast.

I think the club have made the correct decision.

It's was always going to be a hard choice. Leaving out Caballero is too risky, if Joe was to be suspended or injured, Richard Wright would have to play, and whilst showing no disrespect, I would be shitting bricks If he was between Tranny, Bale and co. Kolarov was the other option, and have Mangala cover for LB, but Kolarov is often used in Europe as a LWB or LM, and does offer something different. Leaving out Dzeko would be foolish, trust the guy to pop up with a vital goal if we ever needed one. Overall, despite me feeling bad for Jov, he was the guy with the least risk.

What with flying to most games, knowing his luck he'd get deep vein thrombosis.
Can't say i'm surprised by the decision, but do like the lad and hope it doesn't
knock his confidence too much.

It is always unpleasant for a player to be left out of the champions league squad. A positive for Jovetic, if there is one is that he may in turn get more starts in premier league games but there is no guarantee. However he was not even guaranteed to be involved anyway with the acquisition of Bony, which pushes Jovetic down the pecking order.

Hopefully this should be the last time we are placed in this position again by UEFA FFP corruption.

Saw in a pole that Dzeko was the most popular to be dropped but I have to agree with Pellegrini here. He understandably has no faith in the third keeper as emergency and therefore could not risk leaving out Cabarello

Dzeko has had a very quiet season so far for a number of reasons but he is still a top striker and a better goal scorer and No9 that Jovetic. Jovetic offers something different as he is versatile and can play different roles on offense but Dzeko is the goal getter. It is a shame for Jovetic and this may very well be a forecast for his future in the club but he always has the right attitude so will take it on the chin and keep working.
